I was visiting Austin for a few days and looked up nearby restaurants for something special. The QR ordering had me a little wary, but I’m happy that I went for the garden and excellent food reported in the reviews As a solo diner, it’s not always easy to feel comfortable in a restaurant. But shortly after my arrival a wonderful lady (later told me she was the owner) explained their menu options and I decided to order her favorite– chicken tamale with green salsa It was by far the best tamale I’ve ever had and it is not hyperbole to say I could taste the love that went into its creation If you have an opportunity to visit this fine establishment you will not be disappointed with the food or service. I cannot wait for my next visit to Austin

The food was great, I had a Mom's Migas and Queso which was a gently scrambled eggs with cheese on top of crispy taco pieces served with refried beans and a non-spicy pico de gallo. It was delicious. The way the food was served was eye opening a perfect for a technology hub like Austin. There were five at the table, two couple and me. Each couple and me scanned the QR code on the table with our cell phones to get the menu, nothing different than many other places during and after Covid. But then we scrolled down the menu and choose what we wanted to eat and drink, enter a tip and a credit card number then wait for your order to be delivered to your table. In our case we sent three orders to the kitchen, one for each couple and one for me. The use of technology is great, but it does beg the question, Why are we requested to give a tip when no service has yet been rendered. Perhaps I'm old fashioned (or just old) but I thought a tip was given for service received, and is given after the meal, not before. That may INCLUDE carrying plates from the kitchen to the table, but there is a lot more to good service. This practice of requesting a tip before any service is given leaves a bad taste. It is akin to a voluntary chair tax and will eventually lead to lower income for the wait staff as people stop paying the tax.

The family owned part is what makes this place special. Their story is a good one. The family has had multiple locations throughout the years. I believe this location is the last man standing. Natural causes closed the other locations. Failure never a reason. This place is c-l-e-a-n. Well appointed. Nice music selection overhead. The most recent visit we had the owner herself waiting & doting on us. She overheard me telling my party about the Tamale House on Airport. We reminisced about her brother & the Airport Blvd Tamale House location. Service excellent. Food remains excellent. I’ll be back again. And again.

One of my favorite spots in austin for breakfast tacos with vegetarian friendly options. The chipotle migas was smoky, cheesy, sloppy and just excellent. The horchata cold brew is an amazing twist to cold brew coffee for a hot summers day. The vibe inside and outside are also great. Highly recommend visiting this historical institution

Came here for their tamales, was amazed by the environment. The pictures speak for themselves but I truly believe it's best experienced in person! The tamales lived up to their hype, perfectly moist and flavorful. I can't wait to come here again with friends!!

Nice place for Tex-Mex food. We went for breakfast The breakfast tacos with migas were the best. You could order many sides including cut avocados. All order delivery, using mobile with table number, is very productive The environment is stunningly Mexican. Will come again.

Such a cute vibe and food was incredible. Everything tasted very fresh. Plants were positioned everywhere which made for a chill environment. Seating options were plentiful. It was a seat yourself restaurant, so we chose the back which was located outside. We went during busy hours and still found a seat and parking. You order off a QR code and they bring the food out to you. We were surprised with how quickly we received our food, as there were only 2 runners in the back of this busy restaurant. We helped ourself to waters from a cooler. The idea of this restarting is fantastic and low maintenance. A few things that we did notice is that the food containers that the are served in seem to be wasteful (unless the reuse them). The tortillas were a bit soggy. Also the only tables left were small circular ones. There were 3 of us and we had ordered a few extra plates for chips/dip. We had to put some plates and drinks on the ground to make room for everything. However that was an “us” problem since we chose the table, knowing that there were 3 of us. Price was a little high at least compared to Mexican type eateries in houston. However, great experience, delish food, and we left overall satisfied. You cannot order wrong at this place. We will be back!

Visiting from Ohio, and HAD to get tamales while I was here. I opted for the classic pork recipe, with queso and pickled jalapeños. I wanted some chips, but didn't see an option for a side, so I got a starter, which comes with a lifetime supply of chips and salsa for one. All of the staff seemed genuinely friendly. Good chips, decent salsa, tender tamale with great tasting pork (I thought was 2 average sized tamales, but it was one long one, in 2 halves), and spectacular queso. The jalapeños were a surprising highlight. Make sure you go in and get a parking validation code from the host before you go to the parking kiosk.
