Kanpai

I've always been a fan of Kanpai. Last night I went there with my friend for the Omakase and our minds were blown. Easily the best sushi meal I have ever had in my life, and I've eaten at some of the best sushi restaurants on the West Coast. Luke, the chef, delivered 8 top notch dishes with each one being nothing but spectacular. I have eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants in my life and the fact this place is a couple blocks from where I live is insane. Let him do what he does and deliver a meal that you will be thinking about for a long time. I normally go here about once a month for sashimi and rolls but the Omakase is definitely the way to go. Everything has always been delicious but this was on a whole nother level. I can't stop thinking about it. Unbelievable service, explanations, friendly atmosphere, and creative, unique dishes. I will now being getting their Omakase for every special night of dining. Just do yourself a favor and let Kanpai and Luke make you some of the best sushi you'll ever have. Literally no other sushi in Bend, Portland, Seattle, or Alaska can even come close to comparing to Omakase at Kanpai.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our 5-year anniversary with the Kanpai Omakase. We both were absolutely floored by how amazing it is and are definitely coming back to experience it again (no special occasion needed!). Every course was great, even the ones we had both been hesitant to try beforehand. We made a reservation ahead of time and were seated on-time and promptly. Service was amazing and the Harry Nillson and Prickly Lady cocktails were well balanced. So excited to come back and recommend the experience to anyone and everyone.

Cannot say enough good things about Kanpai. Specifically the omakase, absolutely worth it to let the chef take you in his arms and deliver you the best sushi in Bend. The flavor concoctions that they curate for the omakase are always unimaginably delicious. Drooling sitting here writing this review. Besides the overwhelmingly delicious food, the staff and ambience is just as good. Kanpai is a quaint neighborhood sushi joint, which I would highly recommend reservations for, especially for omakase. Staff is always so kind, fun, and attentive. Highly recommend.

Our small family of three just celebrated an 18th birthday at Kanpai for a kid who had the good fortune of eating there for the first time as a toddler. It was our first time dining in since the pandemic and it was just as we remembered: low-key atmosphere, excellent service and incredibly creative and delicious food. We celebrated a few special occasions during the pandemic with takeout—which was amazing—but enjoying the atmosphere again brought back many good memories for our family. Kanpai is still a haven for locals who love exceptional food without pretense.

I rarely eat sushi bc of the poor quality and respect of fish, so extremely grateful to have a Japanese restaurant serving sustainable high quality sushi/sashimi. Large creative selection of items to please everyone. The specials are always worth trying too. Servers are alway attentive, pleasant and helpful.

Kanpai is our favorite sushi spot in bend and forever will be. The staff treats us incredibly well and we feel like “regulars” although we only come every few months. If you get the chance, order the surf and turf!! EDIT TO ADD: My first review of kanpai doesn’t even do this place justice. The staff is so welcoming and amazing. My husband literally forgot his jacket there from the last time we were there and THEY SAVED HIS JACKET TO RETURN TO HIM. literally a couple months later. Incredible. Tonight was our wedding anniversary and the staff put out the red carpet for us. They are the best team in town. I worked a 12 hour retail day today and they made sure I was happy and comfortable. I will never stop coming to Kanpai. Ever. They are truly the best and everyone deserves a raise!
