Janko's Little Zagreb

Our son is a freshman at Kelley, we were looking for places for the next four years! Great place the atmosphere is very casual, lots of wine and great food. My lamb chops were cooked perfectly medium! We had a cheese platter before an abundant amount of cheese. We already booked a reservation for drop off in the fall!

This place is a local legend. It already has over 700 reviews, but I did want to share a few thoughts with you all. Every other time I have been here, I have always gotten steak. This time, however, I had a craving for meatballs, so that is what I got. They were excellent! Definitely spicy. My wife and I were trying to figure out what they used to spice the sauce up. It almost tasted like Tabasco or some other type of hot sauce. Delicious! The entree comes with 14 meatballs. I forgot to take a pic when our server brought them to us, so there are a few missing in the pic. :-) Servers are very friendly. In spite of us getting there after the first wave of dinner customers, we were seated rather quickly without reservations. We went on a Wednesday night and it was completely full, even with students still not back! The Bakehouse rolls were wonderful and I love how they put a little char on them on the grill. The salad is a nice blend of greens and I always get the blue cheese dressing. We didn't get any sides or dessert because we are always full. Had plenty to take home to enjoy the next night. They do not have any beer on tap. It is all in bottles and the Upland beers are in cans. I got the Yuengling, which was $5 a bottle. I know I pay a premium for alcohol at restaurants, but I must say that the menu items are very reasonably priced, especially considering how much meat costs in the stores these days. It's always fun to go here and look at all of the IU sports memorabilia on the walls. It literally hasn't changed in decades! Very cool. If you are in Bloomington it is worth it for you to check out this local favorite for sure.

The food was great. Honestly, the steak was better than St Elmo's if you've ever been there. The meatballs are awesome and on the spicy side. We got mushrooms and asparagus for sides and they were fantastic. It came with a side salad and a baked potato. The downside is it was so cold in there that the bread they brought you and the other food got cold quickly. The other thing I didn't like was the service wasn't very personal and we felt rushed. It was my birthday dinner and it seemed like they hovered the table just trying to get your empty dishes as soon as you took the last bite. Had the service been better it would have been better than St Elmos.

I was visiting my son, his wife and son and wanted to take them out to eat. We didn't have reservations but we arrived about 15 minutes before opening and when they opened we were able to be seated right away. The wait to order was not long at all. The waitress was very attractive and kept our glasses full. The steaks were done just as we ordered. I don't know what it was about but baked potato but it was excellent. At many other places they sometimes the potato are either hard and hard to eat or turning dark like they have been in the warmer to long. All in all this was a wonderful experience.

I do not come to Janko's frequently but I always have a good experience when visiting. The service is always excellent and friendly and orders tend to be fast. The quality of the steaks is also consistently very good. The ambiance is simple, mostly designed to be a college town hangout place, with simple table lines and overall decoration. Definitely not a pretentious place. Notice that prices tend to be high so it is likely something one would not do regularly but still a great place to take visitors from out of town. Also, notice that there is a public parking garage just across the street.
