Shanghai City

Hostess was very loud and rude. Asked loudly and very condescending as my wife and I showed up for our 7:30 pm reservation, "what do you want!? She seemed bothered that we actually showed up on time for our reservation. Restaurant was extremely overcrowded and floors were filthy. Outside tables were plastic with mismatched cheap plastic chairs that looked like they were picked up overnight from a residential bulk pick up discards. We did not wait to be seated. We left. Terrible vibe from the get go. Will not go back again.

Excellent Cantonese/Hong Kong... as close as you'll get to NYC around here. Mao Po tofu - excellent. Chicken cashew - pretty darn good (and not stingy with the nuts), tofu seafood soup - outstanding, and fish with ginger/scallion - pretty darn good, too. Everything fresh and served with authentic Chinese bok choy, which is a rare. And the Tsing Tao served in a frosty glass.

The place is right behind the hotel I was staying in so it was convenient. I ordered an egg roll and “Beef & Shrimp with chili peppers.” The egg roll was nothing special. The entree was flavorless and overall unimpressive. The spice level was about a 2/10. Nothing too hot by any means. The accompanying rice was dry and undercooked. And just as a cherry on top, my fortune cookie was stale and didn’t have a fortune! I’ll be looking elsewhere the next time I’m passing through town.

Stopped by here as my wife and I are staying nearby. First off, the staff are absolutely amazing! Attentive, knowledgeable, great suggestions for dish pairings, and they ask great questions to make sure that you, as a customer, have a great experience, even if you are ordering to go! Food was ready pretty quickly (<15 minutes), and the quality was absolutely phenomenal! I'd rank our food easily as some of the most authentic Chinese we've had here in the US, and this is compared to what I have had in LA, New York, and in Atlanta (Buford Highway area). The steamed dumplings are absolutely fantastic. The fried rice has a great flavor that consists of all of the ingredients together (not like that of many places where either the soy sauce or onion take over; every ingredient can be identified by taste alone). The mongolian beef had a fantastic flavor with just enough heat to add to the flavor, though maybe tad bit too much onion (this is a really petty nit-pick, though... I always want more protein.). We're absolutely going to stop by again during our stay. And definitely going to stop by here whenever we're in the area.
