I hate leaving negative reviews, even more so for local restaurants especially at this time. But my experience at CK was so unfortunate...I gotta share. For your sake.
Located in the quiet shops off Entertainment, CK Hawaiian BBQ touts they have the best Hawaiian food in Boise. I think there is potential but they need an entire makeover, from the space to the recipes. For one, the restaurant was not clean. The tables were grimy and the floor was oddly sticky. It felt like the place hadn't been properly cleaned in a long time.
I ordered the Kalua Park Plate (savory pork with (or without) cabbage) with a side of macaroni and gravy ($8.45 for small), my husband the Chicken Katso also with a side of macaroni and gravy (panko breaded chicken breast, $9.55). We decided to take our food home. The second I opened the boxes, I was unimpressed. I'll spare you my very descriptive and unappetizing statement (something about the remarkable resemblance to wet cat food), but to be blunt, I was appalled. It was soggy mess of a few pieces of pork with way to much cabbage. I took one small bite and couldn't stomach anymore. Even my husband exclaimed "what the actual f***."
The rest of the food wasn't the worst. The chicken katsu was breaded good but I was like where tf is the katsu sauce?! It wasn't anything special at all. At least it was edible. The macaroni salad was okay. It didn't taste very fresh, probably an old batch.
I'm no Hawaiian food expert and based off their menu I got the impression that they're not aimed at providing traditional Hawaiian fare, but more so "inspired" fare. However, regardless of the origin of the food the fact remained that what I received tonight was terrible. Two stars, because the employees were very nice. And were very accommodating when we changed from dine-in to take-out.

They need a bigger presence, maybe more obvious signage. In a mall. Took a while cooking up our food (they do a bustling takeout business), but what we ordered was pure Hawaii. Best mac salad ever (detected tuna, so this was legit). Awesome shrimp dumplings. I will be back for chicken musubi & fried saimin.
Update: on a return trip...chicken musubi was bland, and warning, no rice w/skimpy garlic shrimp. Not local style. 😡

I never usually rate a local restaurant this badly. However, what I received was unsatisfactory in my book. I payed $12 for a whole bunch of unseasoned fried rice with almost zero vegetables or egg at all—with a lot of unseasoned small cuts of chicken on top. The dish had almost zero flavor to it. I was disappointed. I wanted to taste some really good authentic Hawaiian food for the first time. A friend recommended it to me, and I base where I go to eat on recommendations, so I thought I had nothing to worry about. Unfortunately I was wrong. The leftovers I saved will not be getting eaten.

Would any of you believe I received this AGAIN? I ordered the lemon grass wings. It was completely inedible. I had it with fried rice, however, because they placed some of the chicken on it, the charred pieces fell through rice making it almost impossible for me to separate it and ignore the flavor when I take a bite. It was just NASTY. This is the second time. Why did I come back and order that again? Hm Idk, benefit of the doubt lmfao sad shet.

I have gone there once, and I wish I could have put an order in via phone call (they don’t answer, and there’s no machine with a message) because even with an empty restaurant, order took over half an hour. I had ordered nearly a hundred dollars worth of food, I’m a HUGE fan of Hawaiian cuisine.
However, after coming home with my order, my excitement faded as I found out just how small the portions were. One of my favorite staples from visiting Hawaii was the Loco Moco, super easy to make, rice, patty, egg, gravy. The establishment managed to mess it up by severely overcooking the meat, and significantly overcooking the egg, leaving the dish dry and tasteless. The quality is not there for the price you pay, especially considering the portion size.
In addition, the decor was plain. Worn out tables and chairs, disorganized and dirty self serve station, and no music or ambiance, I didn’t feel like I was in Hawaii, just a florescent lit outlet mall store.
I had approached the restaurant before, once was in the evening, page said they were open but I arrived to a dark closed restaurant. Another time came a few days later when I attempted to reach them via telephone but no one answered even after several attempts.
I just recently attempted to make an order to go via phone again, same result. They cannot be reached, and it’s a guessing game as to whether they are open or not.
My business will no doubt go elsewhere.

Usually get Mo bettahs but wanted to give CK's a shot. Honestly it was pretty good and I didn't feel the portions were any different from Mo Bettahs. Wonder if people complaining about small portions mistakenly bought the small entree instead of large.
The food was good though I personally prefer Mo Bettahs terryaki as its a tiny bit sweeter but for those who prefer their food more savory CK's is great. The orange chicken was surprisingly good. Just griled marinated meat in sauce, no thick soggy breading. Love that they use whats seems like sushi rice. Its stickier, sweeter and goes great with the terriaki in particular. HK style pork buns were good but not amazing. Truthfully I've bought tastier frozen ones but still enjoyed them. Overall very good snd will be back.

Katsu and Musubi were amazing. Great value and a hidden gem in Boise. Food takes some time to prepare but comes out fresh and delicious. Recommend patrons to try Hawaiian Sun drinks, Passion Orange was really good.
