Go for: Highly underrated pizza, red wine, and well-executed dishes all-around. Avoid if: You didn't make a reservation and you're not willing to deal with the North End crowds and delays on the weekends. Something surprising: It's heartwarming to see an Italian restaurant owned and operated by somebody that's actually from the neighborhood. Reservation needed? Yes, unless going outside of prime meal times. Overall Experience: 4/5. It's almost always extremely busy during peak hours, but every time you go here, you actually feel like you're part of the family. The service is accurate and the food is high-quality, yet the overall atmosphere is totally unpretentious. Salem Street is underrated. Pretty decent selection of clearly labeled vegan options for an Italian place. The spaghetti was super flavorful and I also enjoyed the vegan polpettes. However, even though I made a reservation on yelp, I’m not sure if it was honored as we waited at the bar for a very time long time before being sat down, though perhaps it was just because restaurant was very busy, as the place was packed and super loud.
