Comfort At My Table

Average service, average decor, average food, and a baby cockroach. When friends had suggested 'Comfort at My Table' as a place to check out we had high hopes. Upon walking in the decor we were greeted with was ageing. The walls, seats, and tables were not in a terrible state, but the atmosphere was a little drab. Not a big issue, we thought, so we ordered. The service at this cafe lacked energy - the head waiter, the only man available serving, appeared tired - though he did smile and welcomed us. When the food arrived we were underwhelmed. The kid's calamari and chips weren't great. The calamari was chewy, and while the chips were ok the plate itself was below standard. My big breakfast was also disappointing. The eggs were overcooked, and for some reason they thought it a good idea to serve the hollandaise sauce on the side in a little, but tall cup - which meant fishing out meagre offering of sauce. The entire plate was relatively bland. My wife's grilled lamb was also plated nicely enough but was also bland. The only thing that saved this morning was the pot of chai-tea that we both enjoyed. At this point in the meal we were thinking that three stars was a fair rating. I reached over to pour myself another glass of water and noticed a dead baby cockroach stuck to the side of the bottle. Then I noticed that the water within the bottle itself had an unacceptable level of things floating within it. Disappointing.

Today, just as this gorgeous little cafe was closing we were still so warmly welcomed to have a late breakfast! The service was fantastic and the food absolutely delicious! The serving sizes were generous and my tea hot! I would recommend this eatery to anyone who seeks a warm atmosphere, lovely staff and delicious food! Thank you for looking after us!

Really slow service, not enough wait staff on. Then when food came out it was very ordinary and way overpriced for what was offered. Friend had been there previous and suggests may have new owners and she had a great experience before but we will not be coming back. Hopefully more and experienced front of house staff will improve the service at least.

Went to Comfort at My Table this morning for breakfast. We got there a bit early and the lady said we open in 5 mins (this was 7:55am, it opened 8:00am). So we sat at one of the tables out the front. during this time, when they were still in the process of opening, another girl came and gave us menus, then came back and put cutlery on our table etc. So while the cafe was still getting ready to open we reviewed the menus that were given to us and decided on what to get. At about 8:10 they finally opened the doors as there was a queue building. At about qtr past 8, the same lady who gave us the menu and cutlery came over and asked if we had a reservation, to which we said no. We were then asked to get up off the table we had been sitting at for 20 mins and asked to join the queue. I can understand reservations and by no means would I ever jump a queue intentionally. However, at NO point did any of the staff make mention that we needed a reservation. They had 3 opportunities (on arrival, on delivery of menu and on delivery of cutlery) to tell us we needed a reservation and the way the lady member of staff made us aware of this 20mins after we arrived was shocking, she was rude and clearly has no customer service skills. Not impressed and will not recommend this place to anyone.
