Abu's Homestyle Bakery

A simple storefront with complex and well balanced baked goods inside. If it was not recommended by friends I probably would have never stumbled upon this place on my own. Very flavorful pies with subtle unexpected flavors, like clove, cardamom, etc. A flavorful take on southern comfort foods, but not overly sweet, which is a perfect balance, because you get a hint of spice and a more complex flavor in the pies and batter. I prefer their Red Velvet Cake to the famous bake shop on Fulton that ONLY sells Red Velvet Cake. Definitely in my top 5 bakeries in the area. Not to mention the prices, damn, I thought they made a mistake at checkout. I wish them well, headed back today for some dessert.

I can not say enough good things about Abu's. I initially had a small sweet potato pie at Atlantic Antic one year and I was in love. Every Antic I looked forward to my pie before going back to Staten Island. This year I now live in Brooklyn and I found them again at the Antic. I actually took notice of where they're located. One day I was jonesing for sweets and Abu's popped up in my UberEats, I was in heaven So for Thanksgiving I ordered a whole sweet potato pie, bought a slice of almost every cake, a brownie and a beef pattie. I was happy and my family was ecstatic for all the different treats. Sweet potato pie is my #1. The pound cake is my 2nd contender and brownie ties with the pound cake I highly suggest you stop by or order. They're in between Nostrand and Franklin on the A/C. At the Antic and in the shop I felt welcome. The staff were attentive and courteous. Will be patronizing this location for many years to come.

I love Abu's, I make sure I visit and pick up a bean pie or 2, or 3 everytime I go to Brooklyn. I recently ordered online for the first time and it was worth the wait & money. I'm enjoying both my favorite bean pie and sweet potato pie...I even shared to put some of my Midwest friends on! Best bean pie ever!
