Kines

My favorite lunch hang-out in the neighborhood From the outside the building looks like many other brick 🧱 buildings in the Brunswick area: red bricks, graffitis, and a blue roller door. Once you get closer, you will immediately spot the colorful flowers 💐 on the table, the yellow barrel for the plant 🌱 and the window for all take away orders. The inside looks like a cozy living room - loft style. There are several second hand sofas 🛋, old but comfortable. Once you sit down, it is difficult to get up [too comfortable]. On the wall is a bookshelf 📚 inviting you to grab a book and have a good read while enjoying tasty coffee and tasty food. This place is where Wood and Co Coffee started, hence they serve super tasty coffee! As I work just next door, I usually only order food, but from time to time I just cannot resist. Last time I order an espresso from Honduras 🇭🇳 Finca Fernández [Santa Barbara], Parainema, fully washed with flavors of pawpaw, dried apricot, and Werthers Echte. AMAZING 🤩. You should absolutely try the kimchi toasty, the pumpkin 🎃 soup 🥣, and - if you are scared of vampires 🧛‍♂️ - go for the mushroom 🍄 toasty: you will be safe forever, and it is soooo delicious.

Kines is a new staple in my Brunswick cafe rotation. Excellent ambiance and great food. Went for lunch and we ordered a kimchi toastie, mushroom toastie and, of course, coffee. The toasties tasted wonderful and were not overly greasy which is often common with toasties. Looking forward to trying the many other offerings in the menu.

Is it cool to be rude now? This place has consistently unprofessional and intentionally rude service. The coffee is occasionally pretty good, but regularly quiet disappointing. I think there must be a toxic culture that flows down from ownership, because it seems the longer someone works here, the worse their service becomes. While you wait a unexplainably long time for a simple order, it is nice to look at all the hip folk who wear intentionally ugly clothing and ridiculous sneakers. Oh, and when they inevitably get your order wrong, it's definitely your fault.

The consistently rude and borderline hostile service at Kines has me wondering if the staff are told to act that way. It’s a shame because it’s a nice spot. I spent a long time in hospitality so I can empathize with having an off day, but this is too much. Not worth it, especially given the plethora of options within walking distance.

Not sure what happened to Kines over the years. Used to come here a lot when I lived in Brunswick. Visited again today and the staff were rude and ignored my companion and I. When I asked a question to two of the staff, at different times, received a one word answer with no smile. Honestly guys, I really hope this kind of attitude isn’t endorsed by your manager as this is the kind of treatment that costs businesses in the long run. There are many a cafe that don’t make you feel uncomfortable and like you are taking up space - I won’t be back.
