Chilitos Taberna

I’ve spent a LOT of time in Mexico and this is the most authentic Mexican restaurant I’ve found so far in Calgary. Chunky, freshly made guacamole. Corn tortillas and chips. Street tacos the way they should be - meat piled up in a couple layers of tortilla. And they aren’t kidding with “fishbowl Fridays” - my 3oz margarita was served literally in a fishbowl.

Great Mexican food and AMAZING drinks. We met some friend on the patio (reservations were needed for a party of 8) it was awesome the staff were super friendly the drinks flowed easy. The food was very good and the waitress made excellent suggestions. I had the wet shrimp burritto and it was fantastic.

I love this place. I lived in Mexico for a period of time and this makes me feel like I am there again. Authentic delicious food, strong drinks, friendly service, and down-to-earth vibe. I had the vegan enchiladas and it was so nice to have a vegan dish at a non-vegan restaurant where they put some thought and originality into it. To top it off they brought me a tequila shot for my birthday. Will definitely be back!

This place is lovely! I love the atmosphere. It reminds me of Mexico with it's vibrant colors, cozy but down-to-earth decor, and the music playing in the background. Even the signs on the wall remind me of that fun country. The people there, were good. Always willing to answer questions and are patient with the newbies. Whenever they are needed, they are always happy to help make the experience a good one. The food was pretty good. I ordered the vegetarian fajita. The pico de gallo, guacamole, and beans were super delicious. There are also different variety of hot sauces that give you a different tastes of everytime. I really enjoyed it. Sadly there are some downfalls. The vegetables I got were really nice but I kind of wished I had more variety. I had to order a side of cheese which cost extra and sadly the fajita breads themselves were a little grainy. Never-the-less. In this case the restaurant was a fun and enriching experience. I recommend this place to anyone who has a craving for Mexican

Guacamole is nice when it hits your mouth but then, BOOM SALT. Not a fan of the chips - very hard and mouth stabby, but friends thought them acceptable. Tortillas no good. Barbacoa was the worst and had a weird chemically smell and taste. Lengua is nice but needs something more to balance it out....... Speaking of which, the salsa Verde tastes like nothing. Bistec too hard and chewy.....my jaw is tired. I found myself diluting/washing down the taco with the guacamole. Ordered 6 tacos, ate 2.5. Aside from money, this is one of those rare occasions I am most upset I wasted my stomach space. I can't see myself ever returning or suggesting this to anyone. I'll miss you, beergarita (the beergarita was good).
