L'albatros Brasserie + Bar

This was our first time going to L'Albatros and had some mixed feelings. Very easy to make a reservation online, but didn't get seated until 10-15 minutes after our reservation. To be fair the place was packed, and our seats were very close to other guests, they really were maximizing the space where we were in arms length distance of multiple tables. The service overall was good and responsive. The smoked salmon appetizer was good, the braised lamb my wife got was underwhelming and the dish was too moist overall. The duck confit that I got was better, duck was cooked well but a little salty, but the sweet potato puree it came with was amazing, I kept wishing I had more. It could be that maybe we're not French food people though. Overall the plate portions were quite large for a nicer restaurant and the meal prices were fair. Like I said, overall mixed feelings, but definitely leaning more towards good than bad

Nestled discreetly off a small street in University Circle, this upscale wine and cheese restaurant is a true gem for those seeking a refined culinary experience with an ambiance that exudes elegance and serenity. The impressive array of wines and the cheese presentation beckons you to indulge and savor the finer things of life. We received assistance from the sommelier on a selection of wine, selected 3 tantalizing cheeses, and enjoyed a pistachio cake for dessert. The plush surroundings, soft lighting, and friendly attentiveness of the staff will assure my return for a romantic date night or quiet evening with friends.

I can die now, it’s official. I now love French cuisine because of this experience. From walking in, to our amazing server to the succulent salad, original entree creations and their delicate desserts, we were treated like royalty. Layout super refined and comfortable, every patron seemed to love it. We happened to be there during Cleveland Restaurant week and we’re treated to a special menu. It did not disappoint. The owner also stopped by twice to check on us and had a quick chat. Super nice and unexpected Every time you wish you had an exquisite meal, reserve a table at L’Albatros. It’s now in my top 5 restaurant of all time anywhere!

This was the perfect getaway for a gourmet meal. The decor was beautiful and It was just a very short distance from the museums. The service was excellent. The food menu was great with a really wide variety of dishes. The wine menu was extreme to the point that you needed to have someone guide you through it. There were enough choices that you could go there weekly and never drink the same wine. Amazing!!! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. 💯

Quaint place. Staff was very friendly, informative, and attentive. We ordered the choose 7 cheeses plate, they gave a detailed explanation of each cheese and let us choose. I ordered the braised lamb shoulder, very flavorful. The root vegetables were a great pairing. My friend ordered the duck confit, the flavors were amazing and the meat was very tender. The sweet potato mash was equally amazing.

My third visit. Five star food and service every time. Each time I go I’m convinced I’m going to have the cassoulet. Each time something from the day’s list of specials convince me otherwise. This time it was a pork loin with Hen of the Wood Mushrooms with Beet Risotto and Haricots Verts. Every time I’ve said that I need to leave room for the cheese selection with an after dinner drink like Tokaji Aszu. Each time I’ve failed. Lucky for me, my daughter is a freshman at CWRU. Each year, we try to plan to go to a restaurant for our anniversary that is outside of our normal routine. Someplace we have not been to and one that would not be a spot we would choose for a weekday night out. A friend of ours had told us about L'Albatros and what a fantastic experience they had when dining there so we decided this would be our anniversary restaurant this year. I made a reservation online for two and the process was nice and painless. Had no issues with the time and date we were looking for. I got a reminder a few days before to confirm the reservation and everything was all set. Upon arriving, there was a parking attendant at the lot (which is pay lot only) and they collected the $3 dollar fee. The experience with that attendant was ... unique but that is a story for a different time. We walked in and were quickly taken to our table, a little two seat/two top spot near the back of the restaurant. Seating in the location is very cozy and they have a lot of tables in very close proximity to one another. This is the only reason I deducted one star from the atmosphere, you will absolutely be hearing every table conversation on your visit and near the end of our visit, the volume was getting loud. Our waitress was very quick to attend to our table, get our orders, explained some items on the menu, and got us beverages quickly. She stopped by often to top off water and replenish our bread as needed. For starters, we ordered the ASSIETTE DE FROMAGE, 5 cheese option and the CHICKEN LIVER AND FOIE GRAS MOUSSELINE. So the start of a fantastic experience was when the "cheese guy" as we called him came over with his board of cheeses and started explaining everything he had on offer for us to select from. He did a great job explaining what it was, where it came from, what it would taste like, and general notes for each. It was a ride range of types, we selected our five (which I could not tell you what any were now) and he moved onto the next table that ordered cheese. The cheeses we selected were great and were pretty spot on to his description of flavor and strength. My wife enjoyed the chicken liver and foie gras, not my type of dish so I did not partake. For our main entree's, she had ordered a daily special of trout with rice and I ordered the pork three ways. The cauliflower included with my dish was fantastic, very well done and cooked well. All three of my pork options were flavorful and good. She really enjoyed the trout and how it was prepared. For dessert, she ordered the pistachio cake and I ordered the blueberry cheesecake cake. Both were great end cap on an overall phenomenal experience. It's not a type of restaurant I would visit often but was excellent as a special occasion/celebration type venue to me.

The food at L'Albatros was absolutely amazing. I had the chicken breast. It was delicious, my husband had the pork two ways. The ambiance at this restaurant was perfect, romantic, comfortable and inviting. They have seating outside as well. We chose to be inside ...We had seating by the fireplace. The charcuterie board scrumptious! The cheese board had many varieties to choose from. The bottle of wine paired well with cheeses and our main entrees. This French cuisine is the best I've tasted. It is a must-try for anniversaries, romantic dinners or just comfortable dining with friends. Dress is business casual or just casual.

Truly great food and service. Joe was a fountain of knowledge about cheese and the charcuterie platter. He was very charming. Our party had pork both ways, salmon wirh lentils, steak tartare, steak frites, smoked salmon, croque monsieur, hamburger, cheese board, charcuterie, pistachio cake, black cherry ice cream, and sorbet terrine. All were delicious. Our server Olivia was very helpful and nice. The 1800s carriage house is a great place for a restaurant. There is also plenty of outdoor seating.
