Cowell & Hubbard

Wonderful place to have dinner before a show at Playhouse Square. This was my second time eating here, both dinners were before seeing shows. The service is quick enough to get you to the show but relaxd enough that you never feel rushed. This visit was during restaurant week where there is an offering of a 3 course menu for $33. I got the prefixe and choose the Frisee salad (normally $10), a pasta dish with mussels (Pasta of the day, unknown al la carte price), and creme brulee (price not listed on online menu). My husband ordered off the normal menu, he got a Crispy Pork Stack and the Braised Lamp Middle Eastern Style. All the dishes were terrific. Anytime we have time to go out to dinner before a show, you'll probably find use dining here.

This was my second visit to Cowell & Hubbard and I was not disappointed. Pleasant decor, staff made the experience enjoyable and festive. The signature cocktails are delicious and Manhattan is just perfection. Good selection of food. Lamb dish is my favorite so far. Portions were just the right size, allowed to order dessert at the end of the evening. One suggestion for the chef - go easy on salt.

this is one of my favorite fine dining places downtown. I LOVE the huge velvet red booths, its a classic staple that nobody else has, the ambiance is just unbeatable. I have wonderful memories from my childhood of eating a delicious meal here before going to the theatre with my family. If you are looking for a nice place to eat downtown for a date night, special occasion, or just because, go here. you will not regret it. :)

Came here before the Indians game the other night and sat at the bar. What a beautiful location! Super classy and I love that they have the Vault as part of the dining experience. A fun fact- Cowell & Hubbard was a fine jeweler's that used to be in this location so the decor includes tons of black & white pictures from the day. Thank you to the Zack Bruell Group for restoring & revitalizing this Playhouse Square gem. Casey was our bartender and he was great. When he found out we lived in the neighborhood- he gave us a glass of their homemade Lemoncello & Orangecello for a celebratory/welcome toast. It made us feel so special and welcome... thank you thank you for the exceptional customer service! You're offered a really nice bread & olive oil while you wait for your food and to soak up a glass of wine with. The small plates being half priced after 7:15 is an awesome deal..and there's such a good selection! I had the mussels which were yummy. Presented a little odd with the pommes frittes layered right on top (the bottom layer gets soggy....though, the portions are large enough that they're not missed.) Also had an order of the Chicken Spring Rolls...oh my word! So much flavor, loved them. Should have snapped a photo because the presentation was well done! We even got to meet the GM while we were there and had a great conversation about what's happening in Downtown Cleveland and all of the excitement. It's awesome to have someone for such a passion for the neighborhood to be running this place. Heard they just renewed their lease so they're here to stay and I was SO happy to hear it! Awesome location and we will definitely be back. Thank you for such great service!

Great food and excellent service! We had mostly gravitated towards the vegan/vegetarian dishes for no particular reason. I have to say they were excellent. We had escargots and Vegan Stuffed Potato Croquettes for starters and they both were flavorful. We enjoyed the Vegan Shepard’s Pie and Spaghetti Squash for our entrees. The Vegan Shepard’s Pie had a bit of a kick to it, but I liked it. For people who do not like spicy foods this wouldn't be for you.
