The Wooden Spoon

I was not as impressed as I'd hoped to be. I ordered the baked chicken and what I received was baked chicken with some type of interesting looking sauce/gravy on it that I didn't see mentioned on the menu. The chicken itself was fine, as much as I could eat around the sauce. The overall service wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. It felt as though everyone was indifferent. I don't plan to ever eat there again.

Not a great experience. I got a cup of New England Clam Chowder to start. It was very bland. Tasted like creamy water. Waitress was very nice and took it away and off the check. Then my friend and I got the special of the day, Chicken and Dumplings. We both thought it was terrible. Again very bland. There was no chicken flavor. But again the staff was great and offered us something else. We got a plate of chicken tenders and fries. Fries seemed like frozen fries and the chicken was very bland. We used a lot of salt. Didn't help. Hushpupies were excellent though. Overall not a good food experience. Great staff though.

Went for breakfast. The sweet tea was old and sour. They brought fresh out as soon as we asked. Why wouldn't you start the day with the fresh tea. The food and atmosphere were good. The server was good until it was time to pay. Her attitude turned from nice to terrible after I asked her to take items off of the check that we didn't order.

Low quality doesn't match the higher prices. Went here on Sunday when visiting family in town. A lot of nicer places were slammed so we gave this place a try. Ambience was average, but clean. The waitresses were nice enough. The menu however is priced like a more upscale restaurant. Kids meals were okay. Fresh fruit was included with the meal which was a plus, and it was what I expected when I ordered. Trying not to judge a book by its cover, I ordered a $17 sirloin steak meal, which was recommended highly on the menu as superior quality. Of course I don't expect a mouth watering, life changing steak for $17, but I expect it to be decent. Whomever cooked it had absolutely no idea how to properly cook a steak. It was very rubbery even though it didn't have a lot of fat and the flavor was like they rush cooked it. It was a lesser quality than if I had settled for even Chili's or a similar chain restaurant. The mac and cheese was obviously box macaroni and was unimpressive. Salad was the only good part of my meal, nice leafy greens mixed in with 2 slices of fresh cut tomato and cucumber. Overall, would not recommend. Too many similarly priced restaurants that really bring the boom over these bland meals.

My wife wanted to try a new place. We just let and let’s just say I’m disappointed enough to write this review and I never write reviews. It took more than 20 minutes for our food to come, tables before us were still waiting once our food finally came. Wife’s omelette under cooked, grits were salty, her country ham and toast were ok. I ordered chicken and waffles special. Waffles were way too hard and Chicken portion was small... worst C/W I’ve ever had. We won’t be returning there... Maybe they had a bad day, I don’t know but when I visit a new place I want to food to be memorable but I can’t wait to forget it. On a positive the hostess and waitress were friendly, approachable, and attentive.

We LOVE the wooden spoon. The staff is friendly, and the food NEVER disappoints. There are large portions for a reasonable price and a variety of options. We visit very frequently and get the daily specials ( chicken and veggies meal/ or chicken tips) for dinner. A few weeks ago we walked in for lunch on the weekend and discovered their breakfast menu, and it is just as good, if not BETTER than lunch and dinner. ❤❤

The location used the be a Mayflower Seafood restaurant but after renovation the Wooden Spoon opened up as a small breakfast restaurant. The food didn't blow me away and I are my meal in 5 bites. I wish the portions were slightly larger but their prices beat most places. Our family of 5 had a bill of $44 I believe. Overall the experience was delightful. Service was adequate, everything was clean, and food came out relatively quick. I would love to go again as long as I get more food.
