Carnitas Estilo Michoacan

Blink and you'll miss it - it's behind the Payless Shoe Source at the northwest corner of Federal and Evans. Best carnitas in Denver, hands down. They also sell it in bulk at VERY good prices (read: prepared carnitas for less than you could buy raw pork shoulder at Whole Foods). They have a huge menu, but I just can't get past the carnitas plate. Great selection of salsas for your pork, too. I just can't recommend this place highly enough!

I go here specifically for the salsa bar. Usually 6 types of salsa, red and green, some mild and slightly sweet but mostly nice and spicy. When I took my wife there, the lady at the cash register, the owner's daughter, had mom make up a special mango salsa to show off. Also on the bar are onions, big green peppers, limes and cilantro. Best carnitas in town. Yes, that means a little bit chewy on parts, perhaps what some posters have called "burnt". It is a total hole-in-the-wall place, but I think of it as "muy authentico". I'm usually the only gringo is sight, but they keep pretty busy.
