The Old Silk Mill

Just a couple minutes walk from Derby Cathedral and well worth a visit. I remember coming here in the 1990s when the food was very good value, but my first visit since then. Friendly helpful staff and decent selection of real ales and the usual lagers. Comfortable interior and seating good chat with the locals and other visitors. I can't comment on food as I only had beer, but would certainly visit again when in Derby.

I took a two week vacation to Derby in 2007 when I was on leave with the US Navy. Pip made me fall in love with this amazing pub instantly and also got to enjoy a wonderful live music night. I am so happy to hear this amazing example of a true English pub is back open and bring my wife here next time we're over the pond to visit.

I went in to meet a few friends for a Saturday afternoon lunch. We ordered the roast chicken and one us had the roast beef. The food was amazing, gravy was delicious, chicken was perfectly done and it was very filling. How I found room for desert I don't know, but it was worth it. The service was top notch, the waiting time for food was very reasonable and short. The menu is perfectly minimal, although its nice to have variety, sometimes menus can be too full of options and you can be there for a while scratching your head. The Silk Mill menu is a single double sided A4 card and very easy to chose from. Id go back again for sure, it wasn't too crowded or loud on a Saturday afternoon and was very relaxed. You can't ask for more than that 👍

A very friendly busy pub with a good selection of ales that serves great food with substantial portions at reasonable prices. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. They had a full breakdown of the menu in terms of allergens & intolerances. Although they were busy, the food arrived in a timely manner, well presented, very tasty, and very filling. The pub is dog friendly, with the staff providing a bowl of water for our dog. A good night was had by all.

My family have just enjoyed a Cheese and Bacon burger and a Sticky Pork Belly Burger. These are some spectacularly awesome burgers served by the lovely Laura F and Iona. All washed down with some really good beers and ciders. Good food, drink and service. What more can you ask for? Sorry there was no "before" pic we were too hungry 😁
