The Tropixx Caribbean Restaurant & Takeaway

My recent visit to The Tropixx Caribbean Restaurant & Takeaway, located just a short 5-minute walk from the train station, left me with a positive experience. The interior exuded a clean and welcoming ambiance, reminding me of the charm of traditional Caribbean restaurants. However, an inconvenience was the absence of prices on the displayed menu. Despite the initial hiccup with my order of sweet chili wings and sweet potato fries (which were unavailable), I chose the oxtail dish, which came with rice and peas and steamed cabbage and carrot. While the portion size could have been slightly more generous, the oxtail itself was tender and flavorful. The rice and peas was also satisfactory. One small disappointment was the unavailability of plantains, but the substitution with coleslaw turned out to be a decent choice. The coleslaw was good, although not the standout dish of the meal. On a positive note, I appreciated the well-stocked freezer with a variety of Caribbean drinks, adding to the authenticity of the experience. The staff, both the lady and gentleman, were pleasant and accommodating. Although there was initially an extra charge for dining in, they later waived it, which was a considerate gesture. Overall, The Tropixx Caribbean Restaurant & Takeaway is an excellent choice for those seeking authentic Caribbean flavors which I consider worth revisiting.

Yes yes YES!!One word- AUTHENTIC. If like me you had absolutely given up on finding a real carribbean takeaway in derby, The struggle is over…THIS IS IT!!! Ordered for the first time and the food was Per-fect!!!! Even the rice and peas was seasoned how it should be!!! Really impressed and no other takeaway in derby claiming “carribbean” touches this place. Only critical criticisms are: Prices are a bit on the steep side for a takeaway, which had deterred me for months in trying it, but when you taste the food you do get over that especially as prices everywhere are up right now. Just wish the containers for “large” were larger and you had more for the money. Props to the chef(s) who KNOW what they’re doing 🤌🏾😍Very impressed 🫶🏾
