The Tart Tin

The Tart Tin is a place my partner has been attempting to drag me to for a very long time. Unfortunately on said day I wasn't really up to eating or drinking coffee but I did notice that the cabinet was filled with some really yummy looking treats! I even commented on how the Eclairs will filled with vanilla custard instead of plain old whipped cream. What could be me decadent than choux pastry filled with a vanilla custard ... We had a really nice exchange with the two lovely people in the store and when I went to pick up my partners coffee they gave me an extra brown bag .... with a vanilla custard filled eclair in it! I have to say this was one of the most generous and thoughtful acts I have encountered in a cafe in New Zealand period! While I wasn't in the mood for food right then I took the eclair home and decided to leave it until much later to eat it. 5 minutes later - all gone! The choux pastry was unbelievable and the vanilla custard - my darwin - light, fluffy, perfect, perfect, perfect! As a baker and chef by trade I can honestly say I have never had an eclair of this calibre period. To the friendly front of house team at The Tart Tin, you are wonderful human beings. To the baker(s) don't change a thing - truly a masterpiece. The only problem I now have is that when I go back to sample some of their other delicious looking fare will I be able to move past choosing an eclair! Thank you again, wonderful place and my partner loved the coffee too!

After forgetting to pick up my sisters salted caramel meringue cake for her 21st, the team called me and arranged a time out of hours for pick up. Matt was friendly and so chill about the situation. The cake was delicious (as always) and a big hit at the party (and for breakfast the next day). Thanks team, 5/5 service and 5/5 delicious!
