The Mitre Bar

The Mitre Bar is a beautiful pub. In fact, visually it was the more beautiful pub we were in when we visited Edinburgh. We sat in a booth in the dining area away from the bar area and it was great! The booths are set up to walled off from the booth next to it so it adds an feeling of privacy. Our server was energetic, funny and very helpful with recommendations off the menu. We placed our orders for drinks and food and settled in. Service WAS slow for drinks, but we were there on a night during the Rugby World Cup while there was a game on so we expected it to run slowly that night. The drinks were fine, tasty and strong. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered Schnitzel (I know right? German food in the middle of Edinburgh) which was amazing and very, very close to how my German grandfather would make it for me. Yum! We also had Stovies which is a bit like beef stew only different. It was so delicious and perfect for the cooler weather that night. This is a place everyone should stop in and have a meal at while in Edinburgh.

Very old, long established Edinburgh favourite for many. Beautiful historic,very rustic decor and interior. Great range of drinks and classic pub dishes. Always busy despite prices not being cheap. Service can be slow but staff always friendly. A tourist paradise. Gee wilikers Abner isnt it just so quaint. 🤪

Walked into this bar after dinner for a night cap & had a great experience chatting with Tyler the bartender. He was a great beer connoisseur & and explained the different Edinburgh brewed beers. He even shared a personal story about his great grandmother who used to also work at this bar & allegedly saw the ghost of the Bishop, whose throne was buried under what is now the bar area. Great drinks, customer service, & cute cozy bar atmosphere.

This was the first pub we went to while visiting Edinburgh and it did NOT disappoint! Firstly, the service was excellent as the staff were friendly and the food was very quick to come out! We started off with the Cullen Skink which was amazing! It was our first time trying it but definitely was delicious! We also ordered the Stovies and Sausage and Mash which was also really well prepared! Overall great atmosphere, great service but there is limited seating, so you will need reservations for dinnertime :)

We vacationed on Edinburgh a couple weeks ago and thought the service and food were outstanding! We were told our table would be ready in 40 minutes and to feel free to sit at the bar and have a pint while we waited. Our table was ready in only 20 minutes! Our server was attentive and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The order was perfect and I loved the steak and ale pie! It was my favorite thing I ate during our stay. My husband had the Ocean fish and chips and he enjoyed that as well as the houlloumi fries. The portions were good size and we were stuffed when we left. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place!

Coming here for a quick lunch after we climb the Arthur’s Seat and for try the famous Haggis and Scottish Smoked Salmon. Everything really good. I enjoy the haggis and I try to not think on how it’s made. Really flavoured and really good. The service was a little bit slow, but it was ok as they were really busy. If I’ll ever come again to Edinburgh, I’ll definitely come again.

This place is delicious! The staff was so welcoming and friendly. The bartender took the time to break down the different draught beers and gave great recommendations. We were served by Becky who was beyond phenomenal, the restaurant was slammed and short staffed and it never felt like we had to wait for anything. And the pies were amazing!! Absolutely try the pies if you visit!
