Good Buddy Restaurant

I haven't been here since the beginning of the pandemic as Good Buddy switched to a take out only model for quite some time. It was nice to see many of the staff have returned! As for the food, this used to be one of my go to place for Chinese (Cantonese) food in Edmonton. While some of the dishes we ordered were excellent (Garlic Soy Crispy Skin Chicken & Sweet and Sour Pork), I did notice that some of our favourites (Spicy Salted Squid & Deep Fried Fish Filet with Corn) were just a little less flavourful than they previously were. Might have been just a blip, though and I will return regardless!

Complete trash! Took almost 2 hours to get delivery order. Stopped ordering from here years ago due to poor quality and high price. Decided to try again as kids wanted Chinese. Order came to just shy of $100 for 4 mains and a couple sides. Called back after order not received by 1.5 hrs. was told "It's on the way" (we only live 6 blocks away). Waited another 15 min till the driver arrives in his Lexus SUV. Talked to the driver about the time as it is almost at the 2 hr. mark, and asked about a discount, the driver chuckled and said "I can't do that." Unpacked the order as it is now 8 pm and the kids are hungry and close to bed time. Most of the mains are "sort of" hot, but once we started dishing out we noticed burnt bits of noodles, and soggy vegetables, Green onion cake that is way overdone and DF wantons that are so over cooked they are semi-transparent and breaking apart in the container. I would describe the overall taste like when you burn part of the microwave popcorn and it makes the rest of the bag taste bad. I finished eating over an hour ago and I still have the faint burnt taste in my mouth. It always bothers me when a restaurant knows they are giving you garbage food but they don't do anything about it.

Have never been to Good Buddy before; so my daughter and I wanted to try it. Went in, sat down, lady gives us 2 menus and a pot of tea… I guess. I don’t drink tea. When she comes back to get our order; my daughter asks her what the tea is. The lady replies… it’s jasmine tea; good for you; gets did of fat. She looks at me and tells me to drink it as I am fat. She tells my daughter to tell me to drink the tea and I won’t be fat. She says she drinks this tea all the time; then says to us… look at me; I no fat!! I’ve never been so insulted ever.!! And I’m hardly fat!! What horrible people. In todays world? We simply got up and left. Never go there people! We will never go again. Everyone we know is now aware. I have friends that swear by their place… but not any more. Hope they go out of business. Horrible horrible person and establishment!!

Ordered for pick up. My dad went it, and said for pick up. They asked for an order number, which he didn’t have because they didn’t give him one. He said he ordered with his phone number. They rudely told him to wait on the side. He waited another 10 minutes on top of the 30 minutes. Ended up leaving, and ordering from Chan Can Wok. 100% better service, and only a 10 minute wait!!

Would give zero stars if I could. Food was either bland or way too salty. Duck was as hard as rock. Beef brisket was chewy like rubber and the vegetables tasted like it had been cooked in steamy toilet water. The waitress was also extremely rude and yelled at me to order. Worst meal and restaurant experience ever. Left a bad taste in my mouth.
