Yellow Basket

I ate / hung out at the Yellow Basket back in the 50's - 60's when they were on the corner of Western and 162nd. They had great food and the best ever pastrami sandwiches dipped in, not sure, maybe au jus?? and the best tamales w/ chili. I moved away in the mid 60's and have never since had a pastrami sandwich as good as theirs. Ya might want to give it a try and hopefully, if they haven't changed over the many yrs, agree. I still live out of state but so happy to see they are still in business and going strong. Wonder if they still have a jukebox :) ...Tnx for so many great memories!!

Food was great, reminded me of the classic Greek joint burger place. They automatically toasted the bun! Hey you Greek guys out there don't sell your hamburger corners, it was once the day of the fast food franchises, but things are coming around again, I won't eat at Burger King or McDonald's with those skinny little french fries fried to a crisp, but if I want a really good 🍔 burger, I like in and out burger, would you know takes a while. Here, you get a better burger, wonderful french fries crispy on the out Side and yummy on the inside. But even bring you your own little bottle of catchup. The buns are good, I very rarely eat bread, only if I'm having a hamburger, and that's only a couple times a month. I have one this week it was so delicious, the lettuce tomatoes and onions were so fresh and the combination of the dressing and the meet tasted like the burgers my mom would take me out to get after a day of shopping at the mall. These little Greek Burger joints would be all over the place up and down Hawthorne Blvd., Crenshaw, all through the Southbay. They all had one thing in common, pride in serving really good food, good,fresh, high quality, you get what you pay for. I have never been to this one, but one of my neighbors told me in the old days, I guess when he was in high school, that yellow basket hadthe best hamburgers. Yorgos is good as well, if you want to go through the drive-through, and then I have to turn my car around because now I'm in the wrong direction. This one I just went in ordered my food, it was excellent. They got everything right but that's because I explained it how I wanted the sandwich. The burger was great the fries were great, it didn't take a long time. You can order, eat, relax, and be home, in the time that it takes to go through the in and out drive-through. That's for people that have more time than I do.
