Hakata Gensuke Hawthorn

Very standard Hakata ramen that you can expect from the chain. The rich and steamy ramen is perfect for winter. There is a set available in the Hawthorn branch that is good value for money, you can pick a side and a drink with your ramen. The Mentai rice was a bit disappointing though, the Mentai paste was way less than what was showed in the menu.

Wow what can I say… I don’t even know where to begin. the broth was MSG flavouring and super diluted broth (basically of water consistency). There was no depth, and was overpowered by white pepper seasoning (which all sunk to the bottom of the bowl). The noodles clumped up, the chashu was tough, I paid close to $30 to get this special shio ramen and I’m sorely disappointed. The other reviews about it being like a Chinese noodle place is right. I don’t even know what happened, esp I’ve had your noodles in both Russell street and the chicken ramen shop- they were both so amazing. The bowl I got served yesterday was subpar and I just don’t know how two shops can differ so much in quality. Would really like to know what happened!

Summary: We've been here like a dozen times. Better than lining up on the Russell Street one. You seen the line there?
