Captain Tom's Seafood & Oyster

Looking for a unique experience? Stop by here. It’s self seating. Wait in line until a chair or group of chairs opens up. You have your choice of facing outside (windows) or inside (bar). Three are no tables only counters. Not ideal for small children. I had not been here prior. After a few minutes a waiter will stop by to take your order. The menu is posted like a billboard. Make your choices and within a few minutes your order is served. It was fast, efficient, and the meal was good. I enjoyed gumbo, hush puppies, the Texas mini, and fries. There is no check. Go up to the cashier and tell him your order. He will ring it up. Cash or card accepted. Try it for its uniqueness. It’s worth it.

Amazing seafood at amazing price. Can’t beat it anywhere in town. Raw oysters and seafood gumbo on point, get at least the bowl not the cup you’re gonna want more. Went at 9:30pm on a Monday, place was packed. Glad they stay open till 11pm weekdays. Plenty of well lit safe parking. When I got there someone told me this is the best one, would have to agree. Their prices are much less than the other locations around town. Must sit at the bar for the full experience! Cocktail sauce…meh, just add some horseradish and Tabasco too it. Little slow to clean up spots at the bar though.

I'm 44 years old and I have loved this restaurant since I was 10. The unique atmosphere, the delicious food, and the happy staff are all reasons that you MUST try Captain Toms. I always make sure to get the gumbo, oysters on the half shell, and a Texas Mini (fried shrimp and fried catfish) I live in Dallas now, but I promise you that anytime I'm in the Houston area, I will be eating here at LEAST once. This day I did takeout for 10 people. The food was excellent, as I expected. I even bought 2 pints of gumbo to freeze and gift to my dad for Christmas as he no longer lives in the area and misses it too. If there were 10 stars that I could give Captain Tom's, they would be one of the few to get all 10. Great value for the price too. Eat in if you can, but get to go at a minimum. Whatever you do, don't just drive by!!!

What everyone says about busy is true but that's what you want to see because that's where the food is good. It is unique in that the restaurant is built like a tug boat in a way. You walk in find a seat and go sit down. About half are shaped around the oyster bar and half are outward facing. And if you wait for someone to come take your order you would be wrong. Menu is simple and hangs from the middle of the room. just get one of the guy's attention and tell him what you want. When your done tip the guys in cash Your not getting a written ticket or anything and get up go to the register and tell the man what you ate. It's on your honor. I gotta tell ya though If you like seafood eat here and try the flounder but if a cross cut fried flounder isn't your bag they have amazing shrimp fresh oysters catfish even frog legs. Don't get all fancied up though and it's probably not a first date kind of place. BUT THE FOOD ROCKS.

Wow! I would've never eaten here had it not been for my mate's late night idea. Not fine dining, but I actually prefer something polar opposite of pretentious. Every staff person was friendly. It was beyond cheap. Served possibly in record time and clean enough. UPDATED 10/14/2022— Had the seafood gumbo tonight to- go and still awesome. Just perfect. No rice. All full of seafood. We had gumbo (which might be the best I've ever had--and I lived in New Orleans for two years) and a dozen raw oysters. At that price--there's not one thing I can complain about!
