I ordered this delicious soul food not knowing it was going to be the best meal of the year for me. From the flavorful yams, the the tasteful green beans. Every dish I had, I definitely enjoyed. Not leaving the best for last but the SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS was out of this world. Will definitely be ordering continuously. 1000/10

The new location is amazingggggg omg very rooming, great outside space, beautiful color theme feels like home when you walk in the door... the little short lady i missed her name but she was at the other location on almeda , she has always been sweet, beautiful spirit gives you granny vibes she's foing to make you want to come there everyday for that good old fashioned koolaid yes they not ready mamma :) just make your was over there hahaha safe area! I love it !

Their food is hitting hard. Super good. Loving this place. First time. This paragraph is a review of my second visit. Do not go there on Sunday. I am going to keep my five-star review of them because I know the food can be really good. Sunday is a busy day for them, but it seems like they're just throwing food together to look like what it's supposed to be but doesn't taste anything like the food I had on the first trip. On the second trip I could not eat the mac and cheese because it did not taste like cheese at all and was watery. The cornbread had no flavor. The candy yams were not sweet. The gravy for the turkey wings was like water. The mashed potatoes tasted funny and the turkey wings were tough. You should really try this place but only go on the weekdays.

The food was so good. I had the turkey wings with Mac and cheese and green beans. The plate was huge and definitely worth the price. The only complaint is the green beans were a bit salty for my taste and they should consider different plates for carry out, the gravy was everywhere. Other than that it was delicious, service was timely and friendly.

My new favorite soul food spot when I need to fulfill the need. The Mac and cheese is the best I’ve had since moving to Houston, the yams were fresher than I’ve ever had and though the greens could’ve been cooked a tad bit longer, they were seasoned well! Note that there are sooo many ways to season greens. The fish was good too! This is my new go-to spot. For Houston visitors, I vote this place over any other soul food place within a five mile radius. Check my other reviews for a comparison on soul food.

Alfredas long waited reopening is very appreciated. Fear not the food remains delicious and full of flavor. The ox tails dinner weighed about 20 pounds - full of tender tails, rice, green beans, all covered in a rich gravy, silky smooth cornbread dressing and mound of slightly sweet cornbread. However, the impact of the pandemic is obvious. It is now a TO GO only restaurant. Also the food is no longer proudly displayed in the steam tables, now the various food items are pictured on a video screen. The new reality for sure. Still good food, just don’t eat it here.

Been coming here for years. Good food with great people, both the customers and the staff. People here look you in the eye when speaking together, on any subject. You leave here full and happy, by making a connection with other people. People here are engaged in each other and at any given part of the day the people sitting together are speaking, or sitting quietly enjoying their food. Watching the cars go by, listening to the music, and not a phone in sight. Go on in, sit down and relax. Great place and although the inside has had facelifts, the customers and staff are as relaxed and fun as when I first discovered it. One of my favorites in Houston.

Ok...I first want to say that once i got my meal, it was outstanding. Unfortunately, I had to wait patiently to eat it!!! I met my cousin here for brunch on a Sunday morning before the UH vs Cincinnati basketball game. He arrived at 1015 AM. It took him 20 minutes to get his meal in a buffet styled serving line. I got there 30 min later and also waited 20 minutes. I kept smiling because it was obvious to me that there was no help. I ate eggs, bacon and toast. Had water and there was no coffee 😕😕😕. I still gave it 4 stars because the food was delicious.
