Doug's Dinner Bucket

This is a super cozy little place that is perfect for brunch. There are only 4 tables inside - so count on it filling up fast. They also only have one server, so it could get slow, as it was when we were there. We had the Meat Lover's Omelet, Breakfast Burrito, and the Warrior Breakfast. The Warrior is a generous amount of food. You also can't go wrong with the omelets, but I would probably add a side if I was super hungry. Prices are great, so there's no reason not to.

I recently enjoyed a nice breakfast at Doug's Dinner Bucket in Hudson, Ohio. Doug's Dinner Bucket is located on the west side of the Akron Cleveland Road on the west side of Hudson, Ohio. There is plenty of free off-street parking at Doug's. Doug's Dinner Bucket serves a traditional American diner menu. I am not sure if the current dining area setup is the way Doug's Dinner Bucket has always been configured or is the current configuration the result of Covid-19 protocols. The dining area consists of four socially distanced tables. Each table has a four person capacity. There are two counters that once may have been customer dining counters. Both counters have large plexiglass sheets mounted on them. There are no chairs at the counters. The counter section closest to the door has a plexiglass sheet placed a foot from the customer facing edge. It is where folks pick up their take-away orders. The other counter section has the plexiglass sheet placed near the customer facing edge. Now the sweets (cookies, brownies, pastry rolls, etc.) are packaged and on display behind the plexiglass sheet. Beyond that section of counter is the pass-through window from the kitchen. Above that pass-through window is a whiteboard that list the daily specials, daily soup selection and the daily pastry roll offerings. In late May, 2022, the server does not wear a face mask. There is a cook and one server working the tables. The cook does a great job cooking diner style meals. I ordered two items off the menu. Menus are mounted on the wall near each table, except one table. That table is positioned in the center of the dining area and the server brings menus to that table. I ordered the breakfast burrito. The breakfast burrito has scrambled eggs, sausage, green pepper, onion and cheese on a grilled flour tortilla. I, also, ordered two pieces of French toast. The two items I thoroughly enjoyed were not greasy - so Doug's Dinner Bucket is not a greasy spoon Diner based on those two menu selections. Their hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m Tuesday through Friday. 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The restaurant is closed on Mondays. Tuesday through Friday breakfast is served 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. with lunch served the rest of that day. Breakfast is served the entire business hours on the weekend. I arrived around 10 a.m. on a weekday. No customers were in the restaurant when I arrived. Shortly, all four tables were filled with customers and several other customers came in for take-away orders while I was in there. While I was there, as soon as a table was vacated it was filled by new arrivals. This is not a 'fancy pancy' white table cloth restaurant. Doug's Dinner Bucket is a nice plain ol' American diner. When you first sit down at a table, the server brings you a paper napkin and plastic ware in a sealed plastic packet. On each table is a napkin dispenser, salt and pepper, small packets of jelly, packets of artificial sweetners and a sugar dispenser. The food is served on disposable heavy duty paper plates. The receipt is not computer generated and printed. The receipt is handwritten in classic diner style. Like what Flo did at Mel's Diner in the ol' ALICE TV show. Doug's Dinner Bucket is a fun place to enjoy a meal be prepared to wait, in your car, for a table. I did not see a washroom. Maybe there is one with a separate outside entrance in the back of the building?
