OUTSTANDING! If you are gluten free and looking for a special occasion cake or coffee cake this is your place. I have tried other bakeries in Salem who’s GF cakes were dry and over priced. Oven Bird is priced well and the cake is the most moist cake I have ever had, even better than regular flour. This is definitely my new place, plus they are super friendly people. Thank you so much for my wonderful birthday cake, next I will order the sandwich rolls! 1/22/22…Updated, I tried the gluten free rolls! Wow, I love the texture so chewy, soft and moist. I have nothing but great things to say about Ovenbird Bakery! I just moved to Independence a few months ago and heard how great this bakery was. I placed a fairly big order for some baked goods for Christmas! I placed it pretty last minute and Katie was able to fit the order in! It consisted of a gluten free cake with a strawberry mousse in the middle and white frosting, a gluten free blueberry coffee cake, and a gluten free strawberry jelly roll. They were all amazing and my gf family members really enjoyed it! I’ve had a gf birthday cake made from here for my mom and a anniversary cake (with gluten ;)) as well. I will continue to use this bakery for all of my birthday and holiday needs. I’ve been disappointed by many bakeries in the past, but this bakery is amazing. Please try it. You won’t be disappointed!

What is better than the smell of freshly baked bread? Well, eating delicious pastries while smelling freshly baked bread. This is a cozy little place wih great breakfast and pastry items. Quiche was divine, as well as the flaky crusted pastries. Hot, fresh bread for sale daily. You will be sure to find something you love here.

We had Ovenbird Bakery make and delivery the cakes for our wedding, 150+ppl. Pink champagne cake with marionberry jam and vanilla buttercream frosting. Chocolate cake with vanilla pastry cream filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. Chocolate cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. They tasted amazing, look beautiful, and were delivered on time. It was a pleasure working with Ovenbird and I look forward to trying more of their baked goods.

Good bread I have no complaints about that. The complaint I have is when my wife and I went and bought a loaf the guy working the register grabbed the loaf of bread from the rack bare handed like he was palming a basketball. No hand washing no glove, nothing and this is after handling who knows how much money and touching whatever else! My wife noticed it too but felt uncomfortable saying anything. I had to because if not that bread we just paid for was going straight in the trash. I had him give me a different one this time grabbing it with some paper. This should of never happened and they need to have stricter policies on food handling because this is how people get sick.

I stop here often for lunch. Their sandwiches are really good. Depending on the soup of the day I get that as well. The prices are good and the service is great. I've had both sour dough and wheat as they give you a choice and even asked to have one made on one of their poor boy size bagettes for variety. Great little lunch restaurant. Highly recommended.
