Shrimp Hut

I had the best whiting fish on Wednesday 2/22/2023. Also, thanks for the $4.99 all day construction special. Whomever cooked that fish, put their foot in it. I bought 3 and had one left over. The fish taste the same the next day without anything on it. Kudos to the cook. Someone said the parking lot is small. No it isn't. There are two sides to the lot. I have not ever had any bad fish from the Hut, and I have been going since the early 2000s or before then. I have been to them all. I live east so, of course, I go on 38th Street.. Me and my colleagues went for lunch for years when they were both on 22nd Street, Keystone at Southeastern, and on Martin Luther King. I have been west when I lived west, and I went on Capitol. Was sorry to see them.close. I am grateful the Shrimp Hut survived the pandemic.

Shrimp Hut can be off and on. One time the shrimp was good, hot and crispy. The next time it was cold, doughy and nasty. BUT this time they were on POINT. I got the construction special which includes 2 pieces of catfish, 3 shrimps, fries and a can soda. My only complaints was the small pieces of fish! It was one piece of fish broken or cut in half, served as two. The service was okay, but you couldn't call your order in, you had to walk in. The restaurant is carry out only, which is fine. They have chairs for you to sit in and wait on your food but the lobby was cold so most people go back to their vehicles to wait.

I had heard through the grapevine that this place not only served frogs legs, but made frogs legs that would make you miss your grandpa’s cooking. ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! Took me back to when I was a kid snatching bullfrogs out of the lake with grandpa and frying them up. The legs were great and the hush puppies are unique. Not mealy, but more the consistency of pond cake. LEGENDARY. The staff was amazing, friendly and personable. It’s not fast food and it shows. The wait time did not warrant a complaint. On the contrary. If you want faster seafood go to LJS and get exactly want you’ve come to expect. 20 minutes or so and totally worth it. Shrimp Hunt is currently offering carry-out or picnic tables for dinning on site. I enjoyed everything about my visit up to and including the friendly banter of the clientele. I will, without a doubt, be returning to the Shrimp Hut.
