Po' Melvin's Down Home Cookin

I ordered online and my order was ready and waiting when I walked in. The shrimp Po' Boy was outstanding. The bread was soft and fresh. Toppings were fresh. The shrimp was seasoned well and delicious. I would've liked an extra shrimp or two but that's just a bit of a nitpick. 9/10. The fries though... they were soggy and unsalted. 1/10 on the fries. I'd strongly suggest getting salt and ranch if you are going to try to eat these things. Even then it might be rough. Po Melvins- please put a little more love into your fry game.

My daughter had chicken fried steak with cajun rice, yams and greens with jalapeño cornbread. Loved everything except cajun rice. I had pork chops fried with yams and cabbage and a roll. I enjoyed my meal immensely. Worth the price. We had planned to take out but once we got there we loved the atmosphere and changed our minds. We also had peach cobbler. Didn't get a pic sorry my phone had died as I went straight from work. Next time. It tastes like the ones my mom made.

Po Melvin’s is one of our family’s staples! We love everything here. Favorites include chicken fried steak, red beans and rice, chicken and dumplings, fried okra, bayou balls, jalapeño corn bread, and bread pudding. Staff is very friendly! Remodel looks great. It’s always clean and fresh looking inside. Great spot for family dinner or to catch a drink at the bar. Does not disappoint!

As a former N.O. resident, I want to love this place. When I sit down, I do. When I leave, Im never coming back. First, its expensive….the entrees are reasonable, but sides etc are ludicrous….Tea $3.75, Cornbread $3.49, Red Beans & Rice (small cup) $4.49. Then we have food issues…RB&R is just mediocre. Cornbread was dry and salty (should be sweet). Its not even spicy as billed. Shrimp on Po Boy was ample. Good size sandwich, but not exceptional. Fries undercooked, but I like them that way. Good service, music and ambiance. There are better places to go, but some of the other dishes might be better. Im sure I will forget and come back again. No sides, though.
