Van Houtte Coffee

Vanhoutte Cafe is on a nice corner in Jersey City, but it's nothing special. The food was good, but nothing better than a Dunkin' Donuts meal. They do have self-serve coffee (no refills) if that appeals to anyone. I did work on my laptop here for about an hour while I waited for a friend and didn't have any problem with the staff like the other reviewer, which was definitely a positive.

One year ago: Asked for two chicken wraps. Waited 30 minutes for the order and was given a wrap and a sandwich. Since I wasn't about to wait another 30 minutes for the correct order, I asked that the sandwich be taken off my bill. The manager argued with me for three minutes, claiming I didn't order two wraps. He reluctantly took the sandwich off the bill, cursing under his breath. Reported the incident to the main office, never received a reply. Never returned since. Today: Had to meet friends there and ordered a Kenyan coffee (which they told me was their darkest roast). Got the large, and the pot emptied when my cup was halfway full. Told the woman behind the counter and she said for me to wait a few so they could brew another pot. Fine. Fifteen minutes later, still no coffee. Walked up and asked if it was ready. Suddenly remembering, she said, "Oh, right." Poured me a cup of the most watered-down slop I've ever tasted. Never, ever again will I return. I'll stick with the whole beans I get at Legal Grounds on Grand.
