Phomai Vietnamese Noodle House

When I travel to Houston from San Antonio I always stop at Pho Mai. Have been going there for 16 years. Love the Pho rare and rice dishes 55and 57 are a must. Their beef and chicken has a unique flavor. They smoke their meat and season perfectly. Best to eat inside but even next day tardes great. My favorite Vietnamese Pho recipe of entire Texas. Hidden gem behind the Texas Roadhouse. Fast service. Take some to go. If you have. A cold their Pho will keep you smiling and feeling better in no time. Out of all the Vietnamese restaurants in Houston this one is one that stands out on flavor. AMAZING!

Spring rolls here are divine and the broth is very beautiful. You can tell that if there's a lot of love and experience going into the broth. The ingredients are well worth the money, not that it's going to break the bank! It is a very consistent place with very clean restrooms an overall casual atmosphere. The decor is appropriate and not cheap at all. The service could use a little bit more attentiveness, it just felt like once she served a food she never came back for refills LOL. But once you noticed that I drink a lot she did come around a couple more times.

The smell of fennel and lemon grass as you enter the restaurant was very pleasing. Staff was very friendly and the price was fair. However, I have to say we were a little disappointed in the fried wontons, as they were the size of a child's thumb. Other than that, the tripe and tendon were much better than I've had before. Nothing crazy here, a genuine experience, I just wouldn't go for the fried wontons.

Used to have a horrible experience eating here. Staff used to eat together at a table next to yours to the point that you were bothering them if you needed something. Place always smelled like old mop water (inclusively people would mop while you ate). Stayed away for a couple of years. Decided to give it another go, and happy to say it was a complete 180. Pho was super tasty, staff was friendly. Came back with friends and both times we had a great experience. If you havent been in a while give them a try!

The food and service was great as usual. However I did see a decrease in the portion sizes considering the costs increased (not much) a little while ago. I get the #57 charbroiled beef rice plate w/egg roll and it was just enough for me having but the men in my life would have been disappointed lol...nevertheless, I'll be back!
