Kalapata

Kalapata is a hotel for eating tiffin, lunch, snacks and dinner with a/c service and sitting facility. Located opposite to Lake Mall, Lake market, Kolkata. It opens at 8AM in the morning and continues till 10 PM. They serve vegetable meal thali, fish thali, chicken thali, mutton thali at reasonable price. In a thali one can take quantity as much as one can. There is no limit. Beside there are several items like posto, polao-mutton kosha, lata much fry and many more items. At a time there can seat at least 30 persons. Many families come here to enjoy their food. They serve the food on a kalapata leaf. May come one, come all for taste their food items. Service also too good here.

Best local food I have had this trip, thus far. Better value than Kache Koche or whatever the fancy place is called. Popular. Excellent service - plenty of staff. Besides printed menu there is a changeable one in wall - mostly fish Bit crowded and therefore the small dining room cramped at lunch. Place is so popular that they gave a queue section outside. Only two 'dissapointments' - all unlimited except my favourite dish, the drumstick one; plus foreign VISA card not accepted. Kitchen looked plenty clean enough. Will I return?: Absolutely!

Good restaurant for Bengali meals. This restaurant is situated near Kalighat metro station. Went for dinner here and ordered veg meals and katla Kalia. Both were good. Rates are neither high nor less . Service was a bit slow even though the restaurant was almost empty. Ambience is nothing great to speak about. Delicious homemade Bengali food, easily the best everyday meal one can ask in the area. There is sufficient variety in the menu, portions are ample, they have all you can eat meal options. It's crowded during high time leading to congestion in the cramped up room. Orders are delayed according to the crowd. But overall food quality is amazing.

Excellent, authentic Bengali food. Service was noteworthy, a single waiter who doubled as a server for all the tables and was great at guiding even non-Bengali customers in making their choice of food. You'd expect slightly better pricing for the small sized eatery like this but it's OK once in a while and the service and taste of food compensated well.
