Avila's El Ranchito

We love this restaurant’s Newport Beach location so when we saw a new one opened in Lake Forest, couldn’t resist! Unfortunately, this location is truly disappointing. Ordered this past Friday but besides the chips and salsa, nothing was good. (1) The Veggie Quesadilla was not cooked fully and closed-wrapped properly, (2) the portions of Enchilada were 1/2 that of the Newport Beach location (like someone had taken a full enchilada out of it). (3) The quality of rice and beans was very poor - leaving case of indigestion and discomfort thereafter. (4) Non-existent customer service: staff at this location doesn’t understand much English, making any form of communication rather difficult- every person who picked up the phone only spoke Spanish! Was really hoping to support (use) this location during the pandemic but Skip this place and go to their Newport Beach location instead!

The place is small, clean, nice atmosphere and service is friendly and attentive. It's a Mexican place and everything in the restaurant ties nicely into that theme. Prices are a little on the high side, but the dishes and presentation are above average. Only place in this strip mall that's actually busy, so that's telling.

So I was craving ceviche for the second day in a row but this time I was in O.C. Yesterday i paid 16.00 for 3 tostadas and they we fish and onions only. I mentioned that because I could only finish one. Now today I order 3 and the weight of the bag is amazing so I happily pay $52 big ones... yes $52 but I don't open it and the bag ways a ton. As you can see from the photos, I was FOOLED... this is 95% lettuce, tomatoes and soggy tostada. This is a total RIP off. I only gave it a second start because of taste but frankly we are struggling as a country to stay open and at 14 a order and what you get they should go out of business first.

We ordered food for pick up from this restaurant and the prices did not match what was listed on the menu on Google. A burrito listed for $12.99 is actually $16. The manager said “it’s not my fault it’s Google fault.” She then directed us to a website that was non operational. The food tastes good, so that’s good at least, but unfortunate customer service experience and price differences from what is listed so just beware and be prepared for a higher bill.
