It was an experience, from the grounds, to the picnic and obviously the opera house. It was a mixed type of audience, different ages groups of friends and colleagues. Nice relaxed atmosphere. The performance was good, a slow start but warmed up with the character of Iris. Overall pick an opera you know and would enjoy and go with people you like to relax with as the intervals (yes more than one for us) are at least an hour long to allow for snacks, champagne and strawberries 🍓 😀

Fantastic experience from beginning to end. Wonderful opera, divine surroundings and a delightful atmosphere. We saw Rake’s progress with David Hockney’s stage design & costumes and it was beautiful.

Sheer joy! Luxury picnicking in a leisurely way. Champagne and canapés topped with a live theatrical wonder. I would like an associate membership, please!

Enjoyed Semele. Inspired performance and stage. The venue and surrounding gardens are divine. A perfect afternoon.

A wonderful experience, both before and during the opera. The gardens are lovely and perfect for a picnic and a stroll around the pond. The theatre inside is beautiful and the opera stage is of medium size and feels very personal. Everybody looks summery and wonderful each year, although things are getting a little more casual.

It's an opera experience you never will have in central London. Great staging. The performance is always in good quality. Great park for picnic when the weather is right. Friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner at the restaurant, pricey but good food.

I went to Glyndebourne to see Semele which a friend, Stephanie Wake-Edwards, was singing in. She was amazing. The production was interesting though some things were a little jarring, a couple of male characters and their behaviour towards their female counter parts could have been more carefully choreographed for instance. But Glyndebourne is an experience beyond the opera. It's a beautiful modern piece of architecture perfectly fit for purpose, and beautiful grounds in which to picnic in the interval. I'd like to see the opera company branch out more to reach newer, broader, more diverse audiences, to share the experience more widely.

L’elisir d’Amore was so much more fun than I could have imagined. We were second in the small queue of cars to enter and with lots of time and few other guests to compete with the 4 of us chose two benches between which to set up our table of grub and drinks. A couple of splatters of rain we endured would not have stopped a cricket match so no way it was going to stop our picnic. The 5 minute bell is the perfect warning to ensure we could find our seats in good time. The stage design was so clever and expressive. The singers were marvellous. A generous intermission to eat and drink was perfect. There is a sense that this is an elite event but I always feel that “if I’m here it can’t be!” It isn’t giveaway prices even with our seats with partially obscured views but 100% worth it. I guess the cost is the elite aspect...... I would certainly wish this opera venue for anyone wishing to experience culture at its best. A phenomenal day. Thanks Glyndebourne!

L'elisir d'amore Glyndebourne is a well established part of the English summer season. The opera festival started in 1934 and has developed into a slick cultural event. Very well organised with lots of "picnic" options. Worth getting there early for the best spots in the garden if you're bringing your own. The theatre is modern air-conditioned and has generous seating. Fantastic experience even if your not an opera buff.
