Absurd Bird Spitalfields

Due to lockdowns/ pandemic (you know the rest), I hadn't visited this fred chicken restaurant for a few years. Booked as a birthday treat, we booked in advance to make sure that we could get a table for the time we needed. All the standard covid prevention strategies were in place (masks/ dividers/hand sanitizer/ social distancing) which made us feel a lot more comfortable. The service was good and they took the drinks order in a timely manner and at no point during the evening did we feel rushed. We ordered the Korean BBQ burger, Nashville Hot wings, 9 chicken tenders and a buffalo chicken burger with assorted fries and sides. The meal was tasty and even though my burger was fried it didn't taste greasy. Cocktails were OK but the Chicken Rum didn't taste as flavourful as I remember (not sure if that's my palate or a change in the drink - still drank it though ;-) ) We finished of the evening with some Churros with chocolate sauce which hit the right spot. All in all a good experience but that may have been due to us being happy to get out of the house for an evening.

It's a chicken restaurant: wings, drumsticks, tenders, chicken burgers etc. I was passing by and noticed some offers on, so sat in for a bite. The décor is a dark neon red inner, almost looking like a lap dancing club (and the music was turned up, adding to the illusion), quite warm despite the chilly November night, due to well-functioning overhead heat vents. The service was quick - I had a standard Crispy Fried chicken burger and beer on a deal but had to pay for chips separately (which wasn't a problem, given how reasonable the deal was) and the burger was fine for what I wanted. I stayed for another beer, making use of their wifi to get some work done, but found the music grew too intrusive after a bit. I returned again for another meal the following week - just missing their deal cut-off time - but enjoyed the Nashville Hot burger that came. The music was a bit lower on that occasion, so I stayed longer for more beers.

A warm and welcoming place to eat fried chicken in Brick Lane. I enjoyed the AB waffles which are served with maple syrup and gravy on the side for both a sweet and savoury option. The chicken is crispy and succulent and the waffles were very pleasant and reminiscent of the soft part of a homemade Yorkshire pudding! The service is friendly and efficient and we enjoyed the live music.

Since working in the area this has been a regular go to for quick lunches. Food is always cooked fresh and the chicken is super succulent. Also been a few times for dinner with work which is also very good - nice big tables are good when we go as a large group of 8. Portion sizes are ridiculously huge and often nice and messy!
