The Charcoal Grill

Their cod and chips are glorious (and they have a loyalty card) but today I needed something a little lighter. I ordered fish cakes (they told me with some pride that they make their own in-house) and chips with a side salad. Two large fish cakes were served - light crunchy battered cakes stuffed with fresh mash, fish and fresh chopped spring onions and basil. Delicious. Also the side salad was very finely chopped tomato, iceberg, cucumber, celery and fresh parsley. So refreshing. I’m so lucky I pass this eatery on my way home. These guys really take pride in the food they fed.

We order the same meal every time. I have cod and chips and 1 savloy for my husband. I can only comment on the fish and chips. The batter is thin. The cod is always tasty, juicy, freshly cooked, reasonably priced and very well presented. The customer's service is one of the reasons that I go to there. "CUSTOMERS SERVICE" is a big deal to me. The staff are polite. Not too much talking. AND THERE'S A LOYALTY CARD😋 that gets stamped according to our purchases. A free meal for every 5 purchases. Good job 👍

I’m always wary of trying a new fish and chip place - I only have fish and chips about twice a year but it’s an experience I treasure! We were passing and I decided to take a gamble for our supper. I saw some mixed reviews so was nervous but we had cod & chips and rock & chips, both with mushy peas. I have to say it was very good. Lovely fish, crispy batter and nice chips. Generous portions meant we had chips the next day too. Not exactly cheap at £20 but I’d happily go again as it was good quality.

Fish & chips takeaway tonight - so very tasty! The fish cooked to perfection, flakes falling apart, with batter still lovely and crisp. Chips excellent. But we have to talk portion control. That was a small one? Sadly no young person on the premises to polish everything off. I'll ask for the pensioners' size next time 😉
