Slug & Lettuce

I am so disappointed from this place. I went today to get dinner at 18:30. Long waiting queues to order because 9 out of 10 people were ordering loads of drinks. After 20 mins of waiting, it was my turn to order. Half of the menu items were finished and I finally ordered the cheese & bacon burger. I went to sit on a table and all tables were dirty with the leftovers & rubbish from previous customers. Of course no one was around, so I had to clean it myself! They brought me the wrong food, 3 minutes later, they returned with the correct one. No fork, no knife, no napkin, no sauce like mayonnaise or ketchup. I asked for it and never got them, so I went inside the bar and took them myself. I return to finally eat and as you can see on the picture this was the driest burger I ever had on my life. The worst part of it, it was almost cold. The fries & burger were clearly microwaved so they tasted very stale. They had added dry buns, cold bacon & cheese which did not melt due to the fact that the rest of it was not warm and undercooked mushrooms on the side!!! I will never be eating here again. From the very few food orders they had, to mess this one so much, is unacceptable. I thought Slug & Lettuce was a quality place, but it seems like it's only good as a bar and definitely not as a restaurant.

On a very wet Saturday, the pub was very inviting. Despite being very under staffed the 2 members of staff serving kept calm and were very friendly and polite providing excellent service despite the difficulties. Big queues formed for the 2 for 1 cocktails but generally people didn't seem to mind and could see what the problem was. The food was good - there are vegetarian and vegan choices as well as a separate gluten free menu. The fish and chips and scampi were good - decent portions too. Would recommend and hopefully they will have more staff serving next time.

Despite the fact it was really quiet when we got here for Sunday lunch, which is a good thing, you'd expect the service to be top notch but it wasn't. We had to ask for cutlery after our food arrived, cutlery was missing, the men's toilets had no loo roll anywhere and one of the cisterns was completely broken with foul smelling leftover in the bowl. Other than that, it was ok and the food arrived in a timely manner. The management just needs to wake up a bit to get this place up to standards.
