Cantina 1901

Has improved a lot! We live nearby and ordered food from 1910 several times during lockdown when it opened, we also ate in the restaurant every so often after lockdown (6-8 times) but felt that the quality started dropping off so hadn’t been for over a year. My brother was visiting last week, and fancied some Mexican food, so my wife, brother and I went there and loved it. I don’t know if they have changed ingredients/chef/menu, or if we were just unlucky the last couple of times we visited last year, but all of the food was excellent, the service was great and the place was buzzing. Really enjoyed the meal! So, if you visited a while ago and were underwhelmed, I would strongly suggest giving it another go - it feels like they have upped their game!

We went to 1910 Balham after my daughter's wedding. They put on a fantastic show for us -- amazing food, great cocktails and a wonderful atmosphere. The owners and staff could not have been more friendly and kind, and at the same time efficient and attentive. It's gone straight into my "top five eateries" list -- I'm not saying in which position as it might make them big-headed . . . Sadly I don't live in London but next time I visit, that's where I shall eat. Thanks guys!

We came here yesterday for my sisters birthday as she wanted to find a Mexican restaurant, and this one came to mind as I walk past it a lot. The food was delicious. The portion sizes were perfect. The guacamole was also delicious, I literally couldn’t stop dipping into it. Lovely interior and atmosphere too, and friendly, attentive staff. Definitely worth a visit. A hidden gem in Balham.

Always a great time at 1910. We’ve been coming for a few years now and we’re so impressed with the new menu updates. We particularly loved the margaritas, carajillo, flautas & tuna tostada. I love the new drinks & food items available. More than the food though, the service is always a treat. Our waitress, Emily, was so kind and friendly & elevated our experience tenfold. We also were seen by one other waitress whose name I didn’t catch, but she was similarly so attentive and kind. Honestly the waitstaff can make or break a restaurant experience so I’m so glad that 1910 has a great team.

We were a big table for a friends 30th. The staff at 1910 were incredible, for a large table with a 100 different requests nothing was too much trouble for them. You could tell how much they cared about their food and drinks, describing specials to us and making great recommendations. They didn’t mess up on a single food or drinks order for a table of 18 people on a busy Saturday night and the standard of service was amazing from start to finish. Having been to many other restaurants/pubs with large groups we were genuinely in awe of how much the staff here went above and beyond in comparison. The food and drinks were some of the best we’d had anywhere. We couldn’t recommend 1910 enough. Thank you so much for making our friends birthday so amazing!

Wonderful selection and expertise of mezcal and tequila. Service was lovely throughout and the design and atmosphere of this place radiates positive energy. As someone who’s spent a lot of time in Mexico my only critique would be the over-reliance of mayo style sauces on the tacos. It would be nice to see more flavours developed through spices, herbs and citrus. The quesadilla was incredibly rich and greasy, perhaps overly so. Otherwise, a great experience. Might go again and try some other plates.

Made a reservation but the system only allowed for 6:15 and 8:00pm slots - would have loved the flexibility to pop by somewhere between that time, especially considering how empty it was on a week night. The quesadillas were delicious - we had the beef and chorizo ones. The pulled pork taco was also amazing but I wasn’t a fan of the corn tortillas, they tasted overly fragrant and the texture didn’t agree with me. The desserts looked really good but I was stuffed after eating two dishes, so will be back to try them soon!
