Pickled Fish Restaurant

VEGAN HIDDEN GEM We decided to go here not expecting much and oh my gosh I can’t believe this place! The Umami in all the flavors of EVERY dish were amazing. You can tell a culinary genius has hand crafted these complex dishes. The shiitakes mushrooms and cauliflower pizza were to die for! Will absolutely be back. Also bonus they pay all staff a living wage and also very inclusive, gender neutral bathroom, pride flag!

We got a nice spot to sit out to look out on to the beach. I think they were under staffed and busy. My fiancé ordered a beer right from the moment she came with the menus. After she returned to take our food order, she mentioned the drink would be here shortly. I ordered a drink the Valhalla 🥃 and I got mine before his. I had to ask at that point where his was and after it was brought the glass was sweating so it was clear it was just left out. They weren’t making any of the pizzas so that was 👎. The mac and cheese looked great but was flavorless. I don’t even know how that’s possible. The Burrata was excellent. We had to ask for the check 2 times. The waitress was nice but clearly needed help.

Excellent food, FANTASTIC customer service. My husband and I dined at Pickled Fish yesterday and we just keep talking about how amazing the food was, but also how the customer service was the best we’ve ever had. The view is stellar and the decor is nice. The price point is good. I didn’t find it to be too pricey. We spent $200 with tip and had an appetizer (PLEASE GET THE BURRATA!), I had a black cod entree and my husband had their macaroni and cheese with bacon. We also had a few drinks. We also ordered a pepperoni pizza to go. We frequent the area so we will be back. Also huge kudo’s to them for having gender neutral bathrooms and being inclusive. Fantastic establishment. Highly recommend. Editing my review after reading others: If you tip less than 20% I can understand being upset by the 18% gratuity charge. However if you tip less than 20% you shouldn’t eat at places like this anyway. My total before I tipped “extra” was $185, I made it an even $200. The service was outstanding, I didn’t feel like their “political views” were insulting. Literally the only thing there that might chap anyone’s rear end would be the gender neutral bathrooms. Pearl clutching over inclusivity. No one is getting assaulted in the bathroom for crying out loud. It’s a great place, it’s a shame the ones who seemingly can’t afford to eat there feel the need to scream about it on Google.

What a view! The drinks and food are wonderful too. Friendly service made our whole experience great. Delicious cocktails, nice local wine selection. We ordered the chowder, blue scorcher sourdough, and pink shrimp cakes for an appetizing light dinner. Topped off by the salted chocolate pot de crème for a decadent dessert. Really pleasant spot for drinks and dinner!

*UPDATE* Back in Long Beach and happy to report that the restaurant is still great. Added photos of different menu items (menu changes regularly). The salad had pickled cranberries- didn’t even know that was a thing. Oysters were a daily special and quite good. The view still rocks and the service is excellent. Great location- killer view. Cocktail menu was excellent. Dinner was fabulous- some of the best fried oysters I’ve ever had. My wife’s crab cakes were also excellent. Service was spot on.

I am surprised at the low rating for this restaurant. Sure our 2 egg standard breakfast cost $16, but the quality of the meal was very high. Our eggs were perfectly cooked, the homemade sausage was fantastic, the sourdough was locally baked, the coffee very good and the service was friendly. The window table was small, even tiny, but the view was panoramic. I paid $14 for a burger the night previous at a different restaurant (4.7 star rating) and the meal left me hungry and honestly the care taken in it’s preparation was considerably less. Would love to pay $3 less for the meal, but we were very satisfied.
