Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken

AWESOME. Had a craving for fried chicken and donuts so we hit up Birdies - but were super disappointed (overhyped). Astro was right down the street, so we decided to give it a try and SO GLAD WE DID. Their fried chicken was fresh, moist and crispy, as were their signature hotcake donuts. Their glaze were fluffy and the filling decadent, but not too sweet. And customer service ON POINT - friendly, helpful, and professional (And we got hooked up with an extra dipping sauce!) A perfect experience. Birdies on the other hand... Overpriced basic glaze. Not so much different "flavors" as just different colors of the same overly-sugary frosting. Dry cake donuts. Really lackluster customer service; cashier seemed bored and unhappy and not at all interested in helping us out or answering questions. Also, they were out of fried chicken. DON'T GO.

This place is excellent! Ordered a dozen doughnuts to go and had a chicken, egg and bacon sandwich to eat in. The chicken was super juicy and delicious. The service was top notch. The staff helped us pull together a table for our group of 6 and refilled coffee as we waited. The chicken is made to order, so there is a bit of a wait, but totally worth it.

Chicken was average, but the donuts were excellent! Being in downtown though means it does come with downtown prices AKA overpriced. But it still remains that the donuts are super good. Even the donut used for the fried chicken sandwich was probably the better part of that sandwich. All in all, a very solid donut spot, average fried chicken spot.
