Spinellis Pizza

I was in Louisville for work and a coworker suggested Spinelli's so I went. A great recommendation! The place is a little difficult to find a it's in the basement, but we were able to locate it with the help of a local. The staff was friendly, the service was prompt and the food was delicious. Large New York style slices with fresh toppings and savory sauce. I enjoyed the punk and 80's video arcade themed decor as well. Great spot, would definitely go again.

I’m in town for the Derby City Classic and a side attraction for me is exploring dining venues. I am staying at the Brown and woke from a nap shortly after midnight last night feeling a little hungry. Surprised I couldn’t get a bit of nourishment at the hotel bar, which was closing soon, I ordered a Negroni and started a Google search for pizza discovering Spinelli’s Downtown and happily located not far from where I was sitting. What I saw online looked and sounded promising. I called to make sure they were open. I Uber’d over and was not disappointed. As other reviews point out the ambiance is grunge and 2:00 AM midweek was perfect time to enjoy a slice of one of their 18” diameter pies. In DC there are 2 pizza joints steps from each other on the same side of 18th Street in Adams Morgan serving slices from the same 18” diameter pies. One of them is appropriately named Jumbo Slice. Spinelli’s slice was equally enjoyable. I was the only customer and received super service from the 2 Spinelli’s staff working the wee hours shift. It was after hours for serving beer so I was delighted that Spinelli’s has the terrific IBC Root Beer. Thoroughly satisfying dining experience.

Loved this place. A grungy basement vibe with awesome music playing and video games to keep my kids busy. Order at counter and sit at big tables. We had large white pizza which was $22 after tax. Expensive but worth it at pie was fabulous. 8 huge New York style pieces. Everyone loved it even my picky daughter.
