So happy to chance upon this light-filled n airy place for brunch at Southgate! Had a late snooze till noon at travelodge and was pleasantly surprised to find this beautiful cafe so near us with an All-Day brunch menu! We ordered the smoked salmon pancakes (that was changed to crepes as they ran out) and the smashed avocado, which was both a delight to the tastebuds. Fresh smoked salmon that wasnt overly salty, paired with refreshing lemon dill cream and delicate light crepes, yum! The cherry tomatoes on the smashed avo was deliciously sweet, love the poached eggs n buttered sourdough. *only thing was there were lemon juice already squeezed on the smashed avo and some of the lemon seeds were hidden within, which I accidentally bit on and had an unpleasant bitter taste, and swallowed on another while eating the avo. Sourdough toast was very lovely, but would have liked a thicker or bigger size, it seems halved or pressed till down very thin. Other than that love the tasty brunch :)

My partner and I booked the high tea 2 months in advance, and specified in the comments that we were requesting gluten free (which was $20 extra). When we got there they said they didn't know we wanted gluten free and hadn't prepared anything. They were able to make some items gluten free in the end, but not the whole stand which was what we'd be paying for. $20 extra for the cakes being gf, 2 sausage rolls and a couple of sandwiches doesn't seem worth it to me. The price for high tea is good if you're just having it as is, but the gluten free charge is a bit excessive.

Staff so friendly and the Cafe lovely. Beautiful crockery. Was it value for money - yes. Sparkling wine to begin, finishing with pot of tea. The food was well presented and consisted of; 2 x hot party pies topped with relish 6 x ribbon sandwiches fresh and tasty 2 x dry scones accompanied by generous jam and cream generous jam and cream

Absolutely perfect brunch! I organised a special stay in the city with my Mum and was looking for somewhere special to have a nice brunch the next day. Not a lot was open but we accidentally stumbled upon this place. It was perfect as we had a wonderful time. It’s a gorgeous setting, very friendly service and amazing food. Will definitely be back. Thank you.

I've been here twice. 5 stars for the desert/ chocolate martini. 1 star for the high tea. They charged for more than one non-alcoholic drink!?! ?! If you want a good high tea just go upstairs to Langham. Prices comparable but experience is way better. That said the staff here were nice and just doing their jobs.

Really overpriced for what you get. All the other tables were served the same small selection so I can only assume their full price includes this small amount of food. You get one tiered plate for 2 people, which would have been fine if you didn’t have to split everything in half with the other person. It’s really ridiculous. The ribbon sandwiches are very tiny and thin, they’re just a spread of mustard, one piece of ham and a tiny bit of greens. You only get 2 bites each before they’re all gone. The bottom plate is miserably sparse because of how little food they put on it. There’s a single cold party pie on the middle plate. How on earth is a party pie ‘high tea’? Ridiculous! They were too stingy to even give 1 per person, you have to split this child sized party pie? Same goes with a tiny croissant, they only give one. The croissants from Coles bakery are twice the size. The top tier has overly sweet orange cake and chocolate cake. The orange cake is a muffin size, but it’s just too sweet, even tea couldn’t temper the taste. The chocolate cake is even sweeter, it’s basically inedible. The scones are the only filling piece of food, but that’s only for a petite woman. My dad and brother had to go get lunch after this. It’s served with cream and jam, at least they didn’t skimp on the serving sizes of these condiments. They serve 2 drinks per person, which is better than 1 drink, but still doesn’t make up for the embarrassingly inadequate quality and quantity of food. Nothing was homemade, you can tell it was all store bought and plated. Not worth the money at all at $30 per person. We could have gone to an Asian restaurant and actually had a delicious and filling meal and it would have been cheaper.
