Ba'get - Russell Street

I was after a Vietnamese baguette and this place has baguette in its name so I thought that might a clue on what they specialise in! From what I’ve read, they bake their own bread which is lightly toasted when you order one. There is a small area for dine in which is handy, I did notice that the tables had a lot of bread crumbs scattered, once biting into mine I could understand why! The bread is very soft and has a slight chew, with a nice crusty outer shell. I ordered the grilled chicken banh mi which came with marinated chicken and pickled and fresh veg and herbs. It was a good size for lunch, for $9, not bad on pricing considering it’s based in the CBD.

I ordered the Broken Rice with Crispy Pork. I was sceptical about it, but it blew away my expectations. The onion oil rice was very flavoursome; the crispy pork was perfect and the hoisin sauce was the ribbon on top. I've also ordered the vermicelli and banh mi previously, and have always left very satisfied. The service is always friendly and fast, and the aromas in the restaurant are very inviting.

This is our favourite place to grab rice paper rolls from in the city and their bahn mi is always so fresh, with crispy yet soft bread. It tastes like a lot of love goes in to their food. Really good value for money; we just wish they were open later so we could grab something light on an evening for dinner.
