Yum Yum Dumplings

Ok, so this place isn't cheap, but what you get is some very decent Chinese food. Love the fact you can order small servings of dumplings... and for this meat lover, even the vegetarian ones are irresistible! Menu can sometime be a little misleading but hey, live on the wild side,... you might just discover your new favourite dish!

This is a lovely, simple, no frills eatery, not super attractive from the outside, but their poster of "xiao long bao" (soup dumplings) stopped me in my tracks, literally, as I haven't had this dish in a long while. We got in pretty early for lunch, the place was quite empty at around 1130am. We were greeted by their friendly but 'new' staff I think, as he asked us to sit at a 6x person table when we only had 2x, and quickly got corrected by the manager/owner when he happened to walk in just after us. Ah, it's all good. We aimed to have a quick bite, and that's what we got. Quick and easy. Well, I guess awesome timing, as the joint got super busy within half an hour after we sat down. We ordered 3 dishes, the xiao long bao, a spring onion pancake which is my all time fav as I used to make that with my dad when I was a kid, and, a steam pork and veg dumpling. The xiao long bao was last to come but it was outstanding, tasty hot soup flowing out of the bun as soon as you bite into it. The pan fried spring onion pancake was beautifully crispy on the outside, also tasty, but I found it to be a little too 'mushy' on the inside, but still, a decent enough pancake. The steam dumplings were first to come. They were tasty, but could have been a little hotter (in temperature) as it was just luke warm, and the wrapping I found to be a little too "thick", I mean, I should say, I prefer the skin of the dumplings to be thin, so that I don't feel like I'm eating too much dough. Anyway, personal preference I guess. Quick, easy, filling, tasty enough, and fair prices. What we ate was just a small part of what they offer. In fact, they have a massive menu! So we'll definitely try some of their other dishes next time. When I went to pay the bill, the lovely elderly lady behind the counter has the most amazing smile!! So to end the meal and be greeted with a happy face like hers, it got our afternoon off to a delightful start!!
