Conveniently located directly across the street from South Melbourne Market, The Coventry is a great addition to the South Melbourne cafe scene. This spacious cafe offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Tables out the front face the market, whilst if you’d prefer something more secluded then you can sit in courtyard to the rear of the building. Visiting for breakfast we ordered the Avocado & Eggs Benedict and the Middle Eastern Breakfast, along with a cold brew coffee and mango manga smoothie to drink. Everything we ordered came out beautifully presented. The Avocado & Eggs Benedict was a revelation, I’ve always enjoyed an eggs benny but the addition of avocado takes it up a notch. I loved how the egg was presented inside the avo half. The Middle Eastern Breakfast was another stellar dish with chickpea & paprika smash on toasted pita, lemon zest, cherry tomato, feta and rocquette salad, smoky bacon and a poached egg. The chickpea and paprika smash brought the dish together. The cold brew and smoothie were great options for a warm day. Overall I was rather impressed with The Conventry. I’d love to return and try the all day waffle and crepe menu. I give The Coventry 4.5 ⭐️ out of 5. Thanks very much for having me.

2.5 stars ⭐️ A relatively new comer opposite south melbourne market, The Coventry failed to excite any tastebuds here. 😐 I dragged hubby and kids out to have lunch with me on a sunny Saturday afternoon and thought we’d try the relatively new cafe. It’s previous incarnations never lasted long (remember that Huey BBQ Place?) And this one probably won’t last either unless they up their food game. We got the cured salmon salad which was one of the better dishes, fresh salmon and fresh rocket and lovely pomegranate that pops in your mouth that was unfortunately drenched with citrus aioli. If you think you are ordering a healthy, low calorie meal, you might have to think again. It was yum, but I think I would rather have the aioli on a small jar so I can drizzle it on my salad. Kiddies eggs on toast with avocado and spinach as sides got served a slightly browning avocado, and fried eggs that hubby said he could have cooked better. But it was okay, not bad but not amazing either. Hubby had the Golden Rosti, fried egg instead of poached. We both stared at it when it arrived. The Rosti looked like two chicko rolls. It wasn’t that great tasting either as it was a bit too sweet. Hubby wasn’t impressed at all. That being said the service in there was quite good which is a pity as they could really have done a better job with the food.

Friendly service, relaxed ambience, tasty food Context: weekend brunch with my husband on the way to groceries/market Chef made a mistake with my allergy and berries, including cut strawberries, were served on my dish. When I pointed it out and explained it to the waitress (who was not the one that took my order), she took my dish back to the kitchen and got me a fresh plate. She was careful to clarify her understanding of my allergy. Very professional and diligent. I can only assume the waiter who took my order didn't explain it clearly enough to the chef to begin with. Otherwise service was fine and food was great. We both enjoyed our meals

What an absolute hidden gem! I can't say I've ventured all that often to South Melbourne, but I'm so glad I had the excuse to, in trialling this beautiful café! First thing I noticed was the aesthetic! It's lovely, bright and light! There's a lot of greenery which I absolutely love. It really does help to make the whole experience a super enjoyable one. The staff here are absolutely lovely, attentive and helpful! I ordered the Acai Bowl (with PB), while my friend ordered a grain salad with chicken. She also built her own juice, whilst I ordered the Matcha Muscle smoothie! Both dishes were great and of a decent size too. My smoothie went down a treat.. not too fulling or heavy which was refreshing for a large smoothie! Honestly, there's very little (if anything) I could fault about this place! My experience was absolutely lovely and I'll definitely be back this side of town .. even if it is just to dine here! Would definitely recommend a visit. :)

Loved the atmosphere and the decor. We had chilli scrambled eggs and the Korean fried chicken and waffles. They are to die for! Must try when you visit. Staff are friendly and very attentive!

Friendly staffs, great coffee, lovely vibe and the smell of the freshly made waffles and crepes is intoxicating! The Spanish Baked Eggs was a hearty and flavourful mix of eggs, tomato sauce, chorizo, potatoes, olives, herbs and spinach. Bright and piquant flavours, thick and smooth in consistency, it was not made just for dipping the sourdough in but also for slurping. The Acai Bowl was a bit too runny for my liking but taste-wise it was good.

First things first, no food safety hygiene. Lady staff used her bare hands to handle cash payment and our waffles.... Matcha latte tasted really bland. There was only a slight matcha taste in it. Probably the poorest matcha I’ve ever had. Also had the Korean fried chicken waffle which was slightly exceeded my expectations given their matcha standard. Chicken seasoning was ok, but chicken itself was dry. Slight drizzle of maple syrup sauce over waffles.. would have preferred more syrup sauce honestly. Service was good though. A pity the food standard was just not passable.
