Mr. Huxley

Tried this place for breakfast during the week before a meeting. Despite not having s single other customer waiting for food, it still took ~25 minutes to get scrambled eggs on toast. The eggs were so over cooked they were like rubber and the toast was burnt almost beyond being edible. The only reason I’m not giving one star is the coffee was good and the gentleman that served me was nice.

After 3 or 4 mid-morning visits in July and August, I considered the coffee, food and service to be, not exceptional, but ok. But following my last visit, I have no motivation to return at all. On my last visit I had to repeat my order 3 times, was subsequently asked what I was waiting on, was told twice that my order would be chased up - and all of this interaction with the same staff member - for 1 cup of coffee! After 20 minutes I left in disgust, deciding it was even more of a waste of time to request my money back.

May have been an off day for the staff but the service was pathetic. Ordered a Avo breakfast, a croissant, mineral water, two coffees, and an OJ. The poached egg was very over cooked, and not drained of the cooking water which made a little soup on the plate. The croissant ordered and paid for was sold after the fact and we were not told until we asked why we had not received it. No apology just an offer to refund. Lastly the mineral water was never delivered to the table. The only reason why they are getting 2 stars is the place, decor and ambiance was good. For a cafe in a Collingwood which is rich for choice Mr Huxley has a long way to go before they can earn the respect of fellow cafe goers. Keep trying.

I DO NOT recommend this restaurant. I do recommend that the owner review what’s going on. We asked to share this feedback and was advised the owner was unavailable for comment. Our dissatisfaction was that we arrived in out of peak time, there were only 7 other customers present at the time. We waited 55 minutes for food that was cold, hot drinks that were cold and tap water that was awful tasting. The 1 star is for the great service of the young man that took our order.
