Anticafe Vieux-port

L’orbite serves as a coffeeshop, plant shop, and show venue. The space is really gorgeous and it is very pleasant to work from their, or just to sit down and chill, although it can get busy with costumers buying plants from time to time. The staff is also very nice. HOWEVER, their coffee is really bad - one of the worse I had in Montreal. You should also know they offer only alternative milks, and don’t have much choices - i think it’s only one (to be confirmed). I don’t recommend to go there for coffee, but if you go, you should take tea or herbal tea.

Karine, the owner, is ableist, racist, and afraid of anyone who is not white and Québécoise like her. She will insult you, berate you if you challenge her pride, and if you’re stupid or unlucky enough to work for her good luck getting paid. She doesn’t register any of her workers with the government and refuses to pay workers tips. She will call the police if you try to ask her for your wages and will make up stories to anyone unfortunate enough to be near her. She is mean to people of Color and will go so far as to Accuse them of causing trouble or trying to intimidate her. She is the most cruel and evil person I have ever met and I hope her business fails so she stops abusing people. What a waste considering how many beautiful plants are in her store. I hope she learns how to cope with life so she stops taking out her problems on other people. Sad. It used to be such a nice place before she ruined it with her prejudice and rich white lady ethics.

What a find! We ran into this place by luck. We were greated by one of the owners and made us feel at home. In fact that's the whole concept, a place for locals to visit and work in old port. A minimal payment by the hour provides access to a cozy place, networking opportunities and free coffee and tea drinks. Wish them best of luck for this great cause and will definitely be back.

A cute and quiet little cafe in old town. I like it a lot. The first floor is airy and very open. The cafe is also very quiet so it's a great place for quiet studies. There is a basement that's kind of like a dungeon. I was kind of concerned about the shelves (against the brick and mortar wall by the kitchen) breaking because there are so many things on it 😛 but I am sure it will be fine since it's probably been carrying those weights for a long time.
