Deno's Restaurant

This old school diner is always less than half full when other breakfast joints in the neighborhood have a line down the block. It's not the food or the service. The food is standard Montreal breakfast fare served fast and hot (the menu is a little limited). The service is genuine and quick. I think it's because the place perpetually looks dark and closed from the outside. It's kind of dreary on the inside too. The inside is covered in every imaginable shade of beige and nothing else. Not even a single picture on the wall. The only attempts at any sort of decoration are a few houseplants in the windows. This is literally the only restaurant I know of in the whole city where you can be certain you can show up at 10am on Saturday morning, be seated immediately and be eating 10 minutes later. I just hope they are busy enough to stay in business.

Glad to have found this early morning while out looking for breakfast. They open at 5AM and the diner had a homey, retro vibe (it was opened in 1958 after all). The wait staff lady was very friendly and had a warm smile, always checked on us to refill our coffee. The food portion was just right for its price.

Perfect! I love everything about this place. It's like going back in time to a classic diner of fifty years ago. My partner and I were visiting from Seattle and we we're immediately greeted by the owner when we walked in the door. Such a warm welcome! The food, service, and affordable prices were all impressive. Delicious coffe with free refills.

We stumbled on this place while looking for breakfast and boy were we glad we did!! Excellent food at a great price, hot coffee with refills, and super friendly staff. Was a great reminder of how great the traditional breakfast diner experience can be, and is hard to find (at least in Toronto where we are from). Will definitely recommend to others!

We arrived in the city after an early morning flight and needed some grub and caffeine. This was near our hotel so we decided to check it out. The food really hit the spot! And we didn't have to wait too long for it. Our server was very friendly and welcoming, and the dining space has a cozy and relaxed ambience. If you're in the area and need some good comfort food, this place will not disappoint.
