Helen’s Hot Chicken

We stopped in get some Hot Chicken from Helen's. Staff was friendly as they believe they have the best hot chicken around. You can get you chicken hot or really hot or even plain (no hot). We are not from TN so we went with mild hot, The food was good bread come with chicken but the bread is also hot.

First of all, the reviews regarding the customer service are spot on. The ladies working the register do not seem enthused about being at work. However, the gentleman and back was friendly. The food was okay. Definitely spicy for mild. The worst part of the experience was the restaurant itself. It appears as if they haven't taken the time to upkeep the interior and there is a horrible mildew smell. The Helen's in Smyrna is so much better

Food was pretty decent, I enjoyed the chicken and was the right heat. Fries are seasoned pretty well and the other sides were enjoyable as well. They charge 5.99% service charge which they aren't very upfront about. There may have been a sign but I sure didn't see it. Despite that they still give you the prompt to tip at the end of the transaction! Don't charge me a service fee and ask me to tip.

Wanted to order the chicken sandwich combo which was priced at 8.99. When the cashier rang it up she plugged everything in separately so my total almost came out to be $13. I asked her why she couldn’t just charge me for the combo and she said that they never do that combo and that the prices on the menu are not correct. You can order online and it’s the same price as the menu but not at the restaurant. Hmmm… When I received my order I asked the girl up front where is the chicken sandwich, because it clearly doesn’t look like it and she said that’s the sandwich because there’s (soggy) bread on the bottom. It was just a quarter leg. Horrible experience. Got treated very poorly. Food was super mid grade anyways. Much better chicken spots in Nashville, so don’t waste your time here.

I went by Helen's hot chicken today and ordered my usual hot catfish with mustard, pickles and onions which is my favorite! The 1st time I tried this combination was in Nashville. Want it all the time now. I want to shout out to Pam and Josh who presented me with great customer service today. I live in the area so, I come to the Murfreesboro location so much I started calling Ms Pam (Auntie). I haven't had any fish sandwich that have topped them yet! I have hipped my people from back home (Memphis) about it and they always request for some when I come home or if they come here. Keep up the good work!

Being new to the area I had no idea what hot chicken was. The staff was super nice here and explained to me the varying degrees of hot and spicy. Being a wimp I started with mild and I am in love with this place. Will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. They do have weekly specials as well
