Abate Restaurant

Decided to try Abate Restaurant after trying the other 'must have New Haven pizza joints'. Pizza was good, however it is a thicker crust than the others (Sally's, Frank Pepe's, Modern) and honestly was more of a regular pizza joint (if you can call it that). Staff very friendly, would I return, maybe. However I do prefer Modern and Franks pizza more personally..

Where to start? The meatballs were very flavourful, The marinara and Garlic bread was sublime, the pizza was giant, and the pepperoni was crazy good. The prosciutto salad was made with fresh mozzarella. The staff were friendly and attentive even though we got there close to closing, we had no wait time, and the food came relatively quick They serve Peroni Beer and Foxon Park soda. Now on to the desserts. the tiramisu Oh, the tiramisu. I've only had it once before (at a different place), and it was ok wasn't sure I was going to try it Oh my, I'm so glad I did. I fear it will be far too long before my taste buds are graced with such a profoundly smooth, well-balanced creamy tiramisu. Now for the cannolis, I have not had them in a while and forgot how good they could be. These bite-sized morsels of heaven are light and satisfying to no end. The addition of the sprinkles gave it a relaxed silly vibe that was perfect for the festive atmosphere. That leaves us with the carrot cake. Wow, the cake itself was light and fluffy, allowing the carrot flavor to take charge and not be overpowered by the frosting, which can be too sweet. Not in this case. The whipped topping helps bring it all together in a word Balanced. They also have an extensive menu. TBH, we didn't get off the appetizer page. Thank you to everyone that served us that night. Takeout order of veggie and seafood gluten free pizzas. As you can see from the pizza toppings sliding forward, I was a bit anxious to get home and start eating. Hands down best GF crust in New Haven. Seafood in white sauce is decadent. The veggie has eggplant which was different than others I've had but good. Overall great pizzas.

I really hate leaving bad reviews especially when it’s for a place that I’ve ate from a few times before with no real big issues. I decided to place an order through the DoorDash app for an order of Zuppa di pesce from abates. I specifically requested the pasta be made with white sauce because red sauce does not always agree with my body. My order arrived (after being delayed) and the pasta was in red sauce. I immediately contacted DoorDash who only offered me a $9 refund (order was $39). I then chose to contact the restaurant directly who reassured me they would fix it and have their delivery driver bring the correct order. The driver arrives and they want the old order back(?) ehh ok as long as I get my food that’s fine. They literally sent me less than half of the first portion I received in the wrong order. 1 shrimp really?? Sauce was watery and flavorless. I’m so disappointed!!!
