Ernie's Pizzeria

This is the first time I ate at Ernie's on Whalley Ave. Usually drive 18 miles to Zupps but saw the great reviews on Pizza Gavones and Google so I drove 15 miles. Notice the Muzz pie is a small and doesn't fit in the box. The Bacon / Meatball was a medium and also didn't fit. The place is clean and the people are very nice plus the pizza was excellent and I'll be back.

It's about to get very real! I've been thinking about this since my buddy Gerry told me about their signature tomato, bacon & garlic. Will also be getting my usual pepperoni & mushroom as well as a broccoli rabe, sausage, black olive and garlic! Pizza was great as was the service. It's only about an hour drive each way so we will definitely be back!

So new haven is known for its pizza. From Frank Pepe’s to Bar, from Bar to Modern, from Modern to Zeneli’s. And I’m missing about a dozen other places. But Ernie’s is a hidden gem! When i ordered a pie on a weekday and it was a 1hr wait for pick up i knew i was in for treat. It’s literally consistently amazing… 10/10 would recommend but plan for the wait it’s 100% worth it!

Ernie's is a acclaimed shop that the locals hold in in high regards. Spoken in the same breath as Pepe's and Sally's alike so I was eager to check this place out. I brought my kid in tow since he is the expert and we proceeded to order a large plain pie. Our gauge for every shop we visit. The place was pretty busy and the pies churned out pretty quick. We got the pizza sat down outside to have at it. The pie itself had a nice crust too it and the coal oven feel w/o using one. Also a THICK blanket of cheese. We each tried a slice and both agreed Ernie's is decent...not bad but not great. The crust was the best part of this baked round being light and crunchy but holding up to the toppings well. The sauce was good but not otherworldly. The big issue we both had?? Too much cheese... Now dnt get me wrong I love cheese but wow was it layed on thick... One bite and all the cheese came off a slice if it wasnt piping hot. Bummer. And they are on the higher side for pricing as well. But still a good spot if you're around.

Been a long while since our last visit from LA to our lifelong go-to apizza place. Pat hasnt missed a beat. The plain tomato pie with a sprinkling of parm was out of this world...years since i last had one, the white rabe and mootz, and sausage pie...both top performers in a stacked line up. Great crust. Great New Haven apizza. Great people.
