One word to describe this establishment-inconsistent. I have visited Azabu 4 times and ordered delivery once, which of course would deem my rating as precise as one can get. It is such a shame, because I sincerely enjoy this restaurant and would even give it a high 4 star on days the Head chef is working. On days he is not available or on vacation it is an absolute disaster service wise and the food is almost a 2 star rating. Everything is Chewy, pale, horribly cut. When he is available everything is pristine. Buttery, fresh, delicious. Take a look at my depressing 150$ delivery order. My Otoro looks like it’s a phantom of yesterday’s Tuna. Better to close your restaurant on days the head chef isn’t available then keep open and lose clients.

We visited Sushi Azabu during the summer. They had a nice outdoor seating, but we wanted to sit inside, as it was a hot day. The inside looked more modern than I expected, with exposed brick wall and the pop of bright green mosaics on the wall. The back room was quite impressive. Large space with gold mural shining with natural light from the skylight. We ordered Hojicha and Chef's Lunch Omakase, which came with Seasonal Sashimi, Toro Tasting, Chef’s Hot Appetizer, Chef’s Choice of Sushi (Nigiri), Miso Soup, and Dessert. The amount received was a bit more than I expected, which was great. All the sashimi and sushi piece was great, they mostly just melt in your mouth. Very fresh and high quality you can taste. We also enjoyed the hot appetizer, which was a Gindara fish, it was delicious! The dessert was a bit interesting... We received the thinnest possible slice of Basque cheesecake. It was almost impressive how thin they were sliced... It was decadent and delicious though. We had an amazing sushi lunch here, every piece was super delicious, high quality, and made our taste buds to go crazy with happiness. Our server was not so friendly, but it was a-ok. I would love to go back again for more tasty sushi and/or other dishes!

Sushi Azabu is my favorite place in NYC. They have great selection of fish. Servers are knowledgeable and very attentive. They even explain all the fish on the plate for you. Since they do not have a liquor license at the moment, they have good selection of Teas and you got to try the Organic Yuzu Matcha Tea. You will get a pot enough to share for 2. You will get a confirmation call regarding your reservation and the liquor policy.

Had Omakase at the table and it was delicious. I've been to couple of other sushi restaurants that serves Omakase but Sushi Azabu was one of the top quality, and the price is way less expensive compared to others. Server was very attentive and kindly explained all items. I like that fact that they have a choice for hot appetizers. Highly recommend someone who wants a high quality fish for a decent price. **Soy and Wasabi is already on the sushi so its all perfect, but if you need extra, server will kindly help you with it:)

Fantastic restaurant. One of the best sushi experiences I've had in NY (or the U.S. for that matter) the Omakase was exactly enough food and the quality was 5*. Very friendly staff as well which made it truly enjoyable.

Amazing restaurant! This is my first time to have Omakase, and it was a very pleasant experience I would say Omakase in Azabu is a classic type. There’s nothing super original or creative, but I really love that when I want to eat great Japanese sushi The food was fantastic. Delicious, fresh, high quality and delicate. Ingredients are so fresh that you can taste the original flavor of these seafood, and the chef is very professional. At the other side of the counter there were Japanese customers, and they seems to enjoy the food too Besides, the price I personally think is worth it. Definitely special occasion-wise. I compared several restaurants in NYC, the price in Azabu is like in the middle. We were quite full after we finished. There were 2 starter, 1 sashimi set, 1 tasting, 1 choice of meat, 11 sushi, miso soup and 2 desserts. And most importantly the food was fantastic! Highly recommend to reserve to sit at sushi bar. You can not only see how the chef prepare the food, but also the chef will explain everything he serves to you. When we first step into the restaurant it looks like a western bar so I was quite confused. After they knew we reserved a sushi bar seat, they led us to the basement and it changed to a woody Japanese sushi restaurant vibe immediately. The overall service was also very professional, friendly and flexible. We paid 22% tips eventually to show our appreciation (the highest rate they recommend when we paid) At the first time I reserved online. There’s no counter seat option on the reservation platform, so I added on a note. However, when we arrived, they told us the sushi bar was currently only available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (I recommend the restaurant to put that on website). Fortunately they allowed us to change the date without any punishment. And on the other day we changed the date again because there was a thunderstorm, and they let us change again. For lots of omakase restaurants if you cancel close to the time, they charge a lot to penalize. Although they currently don’t serve alcoholic beverages because they’re renewing their license, they allow customers to bring liquors in When we were choosing ice cream from 3 flavors, they also said they can combine 2 flavors for us For uni tasting, there’re actually already some uni in Omakase. If you are not a big uni fan you can skip this to save your $40 Plus, the price is actually not $$ but $$$ for omakase, it’s better to alter the price range on Google map to avoid false expectation If you are looking for a Omakase in NYC but not spending crazy like $300+ or $500+, it’ll be a great option on your bucket list 😋

Came here on a Friday night for nigiri omakase. Enjoyed the meal a lot. Shari had good level of acidity and not overly sweet, temperature was just right. The neta (toppings) were seasonal and prepared very well. Service was impeccable and tips is included. The restaurant itself is cosy and would be great choice for a date. Minor gripe is that the size of each piece of sushi was on the small side, and makes it feel less satisfying when you put a piece in your mouth. This is common in NYC though, so I think it's an NYC thing. For dessert, their Basque Cheesecake was excellent and totally recommended. Overall, excellent meal and would definitely be back.

Sushi Azabu is one of the absolute best sushi restaurants in NYC. Having dined here twice in two years I can say the experience is not only excellent but also consistent. The toro tasting, included in both omekase options, is a big highlight. Great for special occasions as well - I got to try all 3 desserts at the end of a birthday meal!
